As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

- Salmon
- Dried Potato Products
- Chicken Fat
- Salmon Oil
White Fish Meal is the first ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. Dogs need a diet that is based around meat and protein that comes from meat. It’s always good when the first ingredient is a named meat
Salmon is the second ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.
Dried Potato Product is a lower quality ingredient. Potato product is the useless “leftovers” after all the good parts are used such as peelings and culls.
Chicken Fat is going to be the main source of fat. It’s safe to say that the ingredients before this ingredient are going to make up the majority of the dog food. This is a decent quality ingredient. You want to stay away from unidentified fat sources such as, “Animal Fat”
