Science Diet Puppy Lamb Meal and Rice Recipe Dog Food Review

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

[tab:First Five Ingredients:]

Science Diet Puppy Lamb Meal and Rice Recipe Dog Food First Five Ingredients:

  1. Lamb Meal
  2. Corn Gluten Meal
  3. Brewers Rice
  4. Rice Flour
  5. Ground Whole Grain Wheat

Lamb Meal is the first ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. Dogs need a diet that is based around meat and protein that comes from meat. Its always good when the first ingredient is a named meat.

Corn Gluten Meal is the second ingredient. Corn provides your dogs with no nutritional value. Dog’s digestive systems have a hard time digesting this ingredient. If you feed your dog a corn kernel, you will get a corn kernel out. Corn in excess has also been linked to many cases of dog allergies.

Brewer’s rice is the third ingredient and is a lower quality grain and is also considered a by-product.

Rice Flour is the fourth ingredient and is a grain fragment and also a filler. Fillers offer no nutritional value to your dog’s food.

Wheat is thought to be the number one grain that causes allergies within dogs and should be avoided if at all possible.
