Science Diet Nature’s Best Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner Puppy Dog Food Review
As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.
Science Diet Nature’s Best Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner Puppy Dog Food First Five Ingredients:
- Chicken
- Brown Rice
- Soy Bean Meal
- Whole Grain Wheat
- Chicken Meal
Chicken is the first ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.
Brown Rice is the second ingredient and is a decent quality grain that adds additional protein and carbohydrates to your dog’s food.
Soy Bean Meal is the third ingredient and is a lower quality ingredient. It is also a poor source of protein. It is thought that this ingredient is right behind wheat as a leading cause is allergies among dogs.
Whole Grain Wheat is the fourth ingredient. Wheat is thought to be the number one cause of allergies in dogs. Wheat should be avoided if at all possible.
Chicken Meal is the fifth ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. Dogs need a diet that is based around meat and protein that comes from meat. It’s always good when the first ingredient is a named meat.

Give me a break here….just who are the ones actually rating this food? Have they got dog nutrition degrees? What works for one dog may not for another…it’s people like these who frighten new pet owners as what they should feed….
Take it from an old timer, if your dog thrives on a particular food, why change? Just because someone tells you that you are wrong doesn’t mean you are. I’ve been reading all these food ratings all over the net, and it’s apparent to me, no one understands what is going on….geez listen folks, naturally if you fed whole corn it comes out the end…..it’s laughable how there are so many experts around….and that coming from someone who’s had dogs over 50 years…..

I agree with ‘Roy’s’ posting, I think some people have gone a bit over the top when it comes to dog food….They are DOGS, they do not require HUMAN grade food–Not that I want to feed my dogs a poor quality food, I want to feed them a balanced, nutritious food that they will do good on….so I feed SCIENCE DIET NATURALS CHICKEN AND RICE–Does this make me a bad owner? My dogs have really shiny coats, no anal sac issues and look better than ever! You are scaring owners out of a good food! There is a lot of research behind Hills products, and I have seen literally thousands of our patients thrive on it!

Well Im a new dog owner and Im definatley confused now! As I posted before, it seems all the “Good” brands of food are bad too. People post names of brands that are not available to me or is all organic and this and that or whatever. I would like to buy a quality food that will keep my pup healthy and happy. Im not a “brand” man, Ive played those games with my reef aquarium with salt brands but Im not going to play those games with my dog.
