Science Diet Nature’s Best Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner Adult Dog Food Review

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

Science Diet Nature’s Best Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner Adult Dog Food First Five Ingredients:

  1. Chicken
  2. Brown Rice
  3. Whole Grain Wheat
  4. Crack Pearled Barley
  5. Soybean Meal

Chicken is the first ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.

Brown Rice is the second ingredient and is a decent quality grain that adds additional protein and carbohydrates to your dog’s food.

Wheat is the third ingredient and is thought to be the number one cause of allergies in dogs. This ingredient should be avoided if your dog has allergies.

Cracked Pearled Barley is the fourth ingredient. Barley is a decent quality grain. If there are grains we would prefer to see this grain over others.

Soy Bean Meal is the fifth ingredient and is a lower quality ingredient. It is also a poor source of protein. It is thought that this ingredient is right behind wheat as a leading cause is allergies among dogs.
