Chicken Meal is the first ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. A dog’s diet needs to based on the fact that dogs need meat and protein that derives from meat.

Brown Rice is the second ingredient and is a decent quality grain that adds additional protein and carbohydrates to your dog’s food.

I”m not doing free promos or anything for Precise, but I will give my honest evaluation of the food. I put my Doberman on the Chicken and Rice foundation formula about 2 weeks or so ago. He was finally 100% on the Precise formula by the end of the week last night, and I have to say at this point I’m still impressed with the food. I take my boy for 3 mile runs in the evening 3 to 4 days a week pending the weather conditions and at this point his energy/stamina have been great he’s also maintaing healthy muscle tone, skin & coat and I’m only feeding 3cups a day of this stuff. I’m not sure what kind of rating this food gets but I will say for the money it’s not bad food. Plus Precise makes their own food in their own facility in small bactches for quality control.

I think it is pretty light in meat!!! And unless they put a little more in, it won’t be going on my list. But I do not like seeing this much salt (Sodium Selenite is also salt) I do not like seeing Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex or “”Folic Acid”". Can you get proof their suppliers don’t use ethoxyquin in there fish meal?? Rice bran is a low quality grain. I also wonder why their is a need for Natural Chicken Flavor, perhaps they know it is low on meat and need some added taste. And why do they say “(Chicken Cartlidge (Source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulfate)” when there is NONE in this food. Heck, they don’t even list any in there Guaranteed Analysis section, that always bugs me. Big dogs like ours need it, especially GSD’s..

Now don’t get me wrong Antonio, this is a “”HUGE”" step up from anything purnia puts on the table. I am just giving ya my take on this food. Would I feed it, NO.

Jess here’s a list of the ingredient and crude analysis directly from their website. But I agree w/ you, I don’t like seeing the vit K supplement after doing research once you mentioned some key info to me. But Precise removed that from their formulas last year as shown in the above ingredients. They do list the Glucosamine & Condroitin on their crude anaylsis as well, I think http://www.dogchat.com has a list for the old formulas possibly. But like you I’m sceptical about the final meat/grain ratio in the finished product so I emailed the company yesterday for a answer on that issue. But so far the formulas does seem to work I can’t knock it at all.

I also noticed on their site they have lunched a new Holistic complete line that contains more meat in the formulas that might be something of interest for you in the future as a rotation brand. Not sure, just throwing it out there.

Here’s the formulas for one of their new holistic complete lines: The Large and Giant Breed Adult formulas:

  6. Jess says:

Much better. I went to their website and found nothing about the use of ethoxyquin. Now Citrus Fiber, Fat Product and Natural flavor are all low grade. Less salt!. Rice Bran, Menhaden Fish Oil are very iffy. This still bugs me (source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate) because Glucosamin – 400 mg/kg;* Chondroitin Sulfate – 275 mg/kg* is really not that much when looking at my fav at 1400mg/kg of Glucosamine .

Like I say Antonio this is really tons better than purina. Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Oatmeal all before the first fat is what makes up the majority of the ingredients. And I like all 4. They are pushing to get on my list with this ingredient list. They just might make it.

Jess, I agree w/ you, based on the ingredients alone, I’m certain that Precise will not be a 6 star dog food. But I think the food is doing as advertised which is pretty good now days w/ all the marketing hype surrounding so many of the brands out there. Did you see the naturally wild duck formula they have? I was thinking they must be catering to guys like Tony LOL I remember you saying how much he likes duck formula from some of the other better brands.

Duck Meal, Turkey Meal, Ground Brown Rice, Potato, Oatmeal, Chicken Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbyl Palmitate), Rice Bran, Citrus Fiber, Flaxseed, Dried Egg Product, Natural Flavor, Lecithin, Fat Product (natural source of omega-3 DHA from algae), Chicken Cartilage (source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate), Dried Kelp, Alfalfa, Peas, Dried Apples, Dried Carrots, Dried Cranberries, Dried Blueberries, Chamomile, Dandelion, Peppermint, Rosemary, Turmeric, Menhaden Fish Oil, Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086, Chicory Root (a source of Inulin), Potassium Chloride, Salt, Dicalcium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Calcium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Zinc Amino Acid Chelate, Iron Amino Acid Chelate, Biotin, Manganese Amino Acid Chelate, Cobalt Amino Acid Chelate, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, DL-Methionine, Copper Amino Acid Chelate, Folic Acid, Selenium Yeast, Calcium Iodate.

I know some of the ingredients are not your favorite, just like I’m not a fan of the potatoes in dog food, that particular ingredient seems to cause some digestive upset w/ my Dobie. But I think Precise might possibly make your B list w/ their Holistic formulas LOL, wait, now it sounds like I’m advertising which I will not do, you get my drift though check out the ingredients and tell me what you think. In case your interested here’s my new list at the moment. Orijen (Regional Red), Precise (Chicken & Rice) Foundation. I normally prefer to have 3 or 4 to rotate but with at the moment my rotation is down too two.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good dog food and if I wasn’t so lazy, it would be on my list. And I started laughing when you mentioned Tony and his duck issues, you would have had a good laugh the other day at the lake when he was chasing (swimming) after the ducks. If he only would have known. Tony can’t do the red it does not agree with him, but we are gonna try again since I have a big bag. Man, I thought you had a money issue, crap red is outta site here. I get his L.B.P for 57 bucks, but red is 80.

LOL @ money issues, I think in this economy we all have money issues, but that’s a diff subject all together. But the Orijen regional red only costs me $60 for the large bag. I found a store here that starting carrying it. So hopefully the price won’t rise on me, but as of now I can get the Regional Red Cheaper than I was paying for the Evo “Red Meat”.

Update*** I’m still using the Precise Foundation formula with my 2.5 year old Doberman and up to this point I couldn’t ask for better results. Great Stamina, healthy weight, small firmer stools, and more importantly he eats the food pretty well and doesn’t get that killer Dober gas that most Doberman owners are familiar with. I’m not saying this is a perfect dog kibble (I don’t personally believe that is such a thing), but it’s definately working well with my dog. I run my dog 3-4 days a week, and he’s maintaining weight and conditioning while feeding the bare minimum, I think that speaks volumes for itself.

My Dobie has been on this brand for almost 1 month now, and honestly I’ve noticed considerable improvements in his overall health. His energy has been great, the coat is nice and slick, and the smaller stools has been a plus. I think this food has proven to be highly digestible for my dog. I don’t know how the grain content might be for other dogs, but w/ a meat to grain ratio of 0.79 to 1 it seems to work just right for my Dobie. During the working seasons the grain free diets don’t work well for him, they tend to cause to much of a drop in energy and weight so it’s important to know the individual needs of your dog. I will continue to evaluate this food carefully as it’s still relatively new to my Dog’s diet, so I want to see the long term health of this particular brand before I can jump on the bandwagon for sure. With that being said the early going does seem to be good at this time.

The Great Dane Lady has been working on dog nutrition (without compensation)and is a college professor. She has spent many years studying dog nutrition and as of late she been working with Precise Pet and highly recommends this for our giant breed dogs. If you have any questions she is versed in the needs of other breeds as well. No pet food store I went in knew of the requirements for my Dane and many gave false and what could have been crippling information!!! I found her while searching for the best way to feed and she knows her stuff!!!

Karen~I have a 8 week old Dane pup. In a week or so I will have to switch him over from the food the breeder sent home with him. So much info out there……was thinking about Precise but would have to special order thru the pet store since they don’t stock it. They do stock the dane lady’s second choice which is NutriSource~does anyone have any input????? Have about a week to decide…..thanks

I’ve had my 10 week old litter of Great Dane pups on Precise Chicken and Rice Foundation Formula since weaning and I’m about at my wits end. I’ve never had so many inconsistant stools! One day they’re good and the next day someone has cow-patties. I don’t know if it’s the formula or sometimes they eat too much or what but I’m looking to switch to something else now to see if it makes a difference. The puppies have also decided they don’t care for it as much as they did at first. Almost everyday one or two decide not to eat their food. I have no idea if it’s the food or the puppies but I’m looking to make a change.
