1. Salmon

2. Salmon meal

3. Potatoes

4. Peas

5. Canola oil

Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is an extremely healthy fish. However, it does contain roughly 80% water, so once it has been cooked, there will be a great deal less of it.

Salmon meal comes in handy here as it will compensate for the amount of water that has been lost cooking the salmon. It’s essentially a concentrated form of meat, which has 300% more protein in it than fresh salmon does.

Potatoes are a gluten-free source of carbohydrates that are ideal for dogs who don’t tolerate grains well. While they provide calories and will fill your dog up, they don’t contain much nutritional value.

Peas are high in fiber, plus they contain notable amounts of vitamins A, B-1, B-6 and C. What’s more, as a member of the legume family, peas are composed of around 25% protein.

Canola oil does contain fairly high levels of omega-3s, but some people have concerns over its health benefits. Much of the controversy is linked to the use of genetically modified rapeseed.
