Evangers Pheasant and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food Review

When looking at dog food ingredients there are two things you want to look at. The first is the main fat content. Everything before the first fat content are going to be your main ingredients. Then of course you want to check it out the first five ingredients. In our case the main fat source is our eight ingredient and comes in the form of Chicken Fat.

First Five Ingredients:

Evangers Pheasant and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food First Five Ingredients Analysis:

  1. Fresh Pheasant
  2. Duck Meal
  3. Brown Rice
  4. Salmon Meal
  5. Pearled Barley

Fresh Pheasant is the first ingredient of this formula. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content and once removed, (making this a dry ingredient) it will weigh significantly lower, thus falling further in the ingredients list.

Duck Meal is the second ingredient of this recipe. This is probably the first true ingredient of this recipe. We consider this a great source of meat and protein.

Brown Rice is your third ingredient and is going to be your main source of grains. Rice is commonly used in dog food and it a good source of additional protein and carbohydrates. Rice is a decently quality grain and we have nothing bad to say about it.

Salmon Meal is the third ingredient and is a named meat. Dogs diets are based on the fact that dogs need plenty of meat and protein that comes from meat.

Potato Product is the fourth ingredient and is a good source of carbohydrates and vitamin-b.

Pearled Barley is the fifth ingredient in this recipe and is also considered to be a decent quality grain.

Decent food in my opinion but Canola Oil is not a great, and Dried Tomato Pomace is a low quality filler.

Add some steamed hard squash (like butternut or acorn) to your dog’s meals, 1 tbls per 20 pounds of dog…sure to cure the farts and most dogs love steamed squash. Also, it’s good for them!

Orijen !!,, Blue Wilderness, Go grain free, Evo, California Natural, ACANA, Artemis, Canidae all life stages, Fromm, Natures Logic and Timberwolf. All good foods but you should double check before you buy because it seems everyone is changing there formulas these days. This is the only product from Canidae I recommend and I think the rest of Go has Canola oil in it.
