PEDIGREE WITH LAMB and RICE for Dogs Review

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

PEDIGREE WITH LAMB and RICE for Dogs First Five Ingredients:

  1. Ground Whole Corn
  2. Chicken By-Products Meal
  3. Ground Wheat
  4. Meat and Bone Meal
  5. Animal Fat

Ground Whole Corn is the first ingredient. Some believe that’s dog’s digestive systems have a hard time digesting this ingredient. Corn in excess has also been linked to many cases of dog allergies.

Chicken By-Products is the second ingredient. This ingredient is impossible to determine the actual quality of. The AAFCO definition of chicken by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.”

Wheat is thought to be the number one cause of allergies in dogs. This ingredient should be avoided if your dog develops allergies.

Meat and Bone Meal is an ingredient that is also hard to determine the quality of. Meat and Bone Meal is a protein source that is available at a lower cost and used most often by lower quality dog foods.

Animal Fat is an unidentified source of fat. As with other ingredients in this formula its hard to determine the quality of this ingredient.
