Natural Choice Adult High Energy Dog Food Review

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

First Five Ingredients:

Natural Choice Adult High Energy Dog Food First Five Ingredients:

  1. Chicken Meal
  2. Ground Rice
  3. Corn Gluten Meal
  4. Poultry Fat
  5. Dried Plain Beet Pulp

Chicken Meal is the first ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. Dogs need a diet that is based around meat and protein that comes from meat. This ingredient adds additional meat and protein to this recipe.

The second ingredient is Ground Rice and is of decent quality. Rice provides additional carbohydrates and proteins to the recipe.

Corn Gluten Meal is the third ingredient. Corn provides your dogs with no nutritional value. Dog’s digestive systems have a hard time digesting this ingredient. If you feed your dog a corn kernel, you will get a corn kernel out. Corn in excess has also been linked to many cases of dog allergies.

Poultry Fat is the fourth ingredient and is a lower quality ingredient with unidentified origins.

Beet Pulp is the fifth ingredient. It is thought by some to be a cause of excess stress on kidneys and cause allergies and ear infections.

For more than a couple of years, I was feeding my weimaraner this food and during that same time frame, he was incessantly chasing his tail and licking his rear end. I took him to the vet a number of times. They checked his anal glands etc. but they couldn’t find anything wrong. Then about a year ago, I changed dog food to save money. The problem gradually went away, but I didn’t notice. Then last week, the pet store was out of the new food I’ve been feeding him, so I went back to the Nutro Adult High Energy. By the fourth day of transitioning back to this food (today), he is now chasing his tail again. The light bulb went on: he’s having an alergic reaction to the food. If your dog is acting strange, but no one can figure out why, consider that s/he might have a food allergy of some kind. :^)

    hi Larry

Tell tale signs are chewing their feet, biting at the base of the tail, and shaking their head. If you see these signs it usually means allergen problems.
