Kirkland Signature Range Super Premium Puppy Chicken, Rice and Vegetable Dog Food Review

For the price it will be hard to find a brand of this quality. Usually dog food brands in the price range of Kirkland are overloaded with grains and fillers. The first thing we are going to do is take a look at the first five ingredients.

Kirkland Signature Range Super Premium Puppy Chicken, Rice and Vegetable First Five Ingredient:

  1. Chicken – Chicken is the first ingredient. Since this ingredient is not in the form of a meal it still has its water weight before hand, which if removed it would more than likely fall further down in the ingredients list. Water makes up approximately 80% of this ingredient.
  2. Chicken meal – Chicken meal is probably this formulas first ingredient. Since meat is a natural part of a dogs diet we are pleased to see this as the first ingredient.
  3. Whole grain brown rice – The premium dog food brands will exclude all grains from their ingredients. Does having grains make this food horrible? Not necessarily. Whole grain brown rice is a decent quality of grain so it doesn’t lower the quality of the food that much.
  4. Cracked pearl barley -Also a decent quality grain.
  5. Egg Product -Egg as a whole is a decent ingredient.

Beet pulp is also found as an ingredient and has been linked to allergies in dogs. It comes in the form of a by product.

I have been doing a lot of research on Kirkland dog foods and found overall they are very highly rated and I like the ingredients. I will be switching my 2 Chesapeakes over to the adult formula and I will also be using the puppy formula for my new litter. A couple of things I found that I feel are worth mentioning; Kirkland dog food is made by Diamond and it is ethoxyquin-free.

Great food. I have my 3 1/2 month Belgian Malinois on this. His coat has become lustrous since. I highly recommend this meal

We’ve been very pleased with Kirkland Premium dog food. The price can’t be beat and our two dogs love this brand. Their coats are shinier and they’ve gained healthy weight in the three weeks they’ve been fed this dog food. Prior to changing to Kirkland they were being fed a raw diet of chicken backs, livers and gizzards.

It’s been two days now that our Yorkie has had Kirklands puppy chicken and rice. He ate everything on his plate both days which he never did with Blue Buffalo. So far no ill effects at all so we’re cautiously optimistic.
