Horizon Legacy Puppy Dog Food Review

Please note (10/29/10): The formula has been updated and is now reflected in this review.

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

Horizon Legacy Puppy Dog Food First Five Ingredients:

  1. Fresh Chicken Meat
  2. Chicken Meal
  3. Turkey Meal
  4. Peas
  5. Pea Starch

Fresh chicken meat is the first ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.

The second and third ingredients are all named meat ingredients. This is going to provide the majority of the protein in this dog food.

The main source of carbohydrates is going to come from peas. Peas are a decent source of vegetable protein.

Horizon Pet Foods are here in the Midwest. Keep checking Horizons website for a dealer near you , By the end of the year the Horizon should not be to hard to find!

This has to be the most overlooked dog food on the market today. I guess pea starch concentrate turns some people off to the product. I really like this food, sure the Fresh chicken meat drops down some, but that still leaves 3 meat meals. They add in a littlr Chinese for extra taste, lol.

  3. Jess says:

Isn’t this odd, DFA dropped Horizon Legacy off their ratings COMPLETELY(it used to be a 6 star) and Horizon Legacy dropped Salmon meal down to the 6th ingredient.

Kevin Cobb I have no idea what planet you are on, but this is a Canadian company..
