2 year ago today our family adopted a cocker spaniel from the NYC pound. He was very ill and extremely unfriendly. The volunteers there tried to convince me to take a different dog. However the minute i brought him home, he made a special bond with my young boys (2 and 4 at the time). 2 years later though, after behavioral trainers, dietary specialists and countless surgeries, I have the most amazing dog. He is an amazing member of our family.
Just last month, my boys were with their father at our summer home. I had to remain in the city to do work. The boys were playing by the water and accidentally one stepped on a rattlesnake. Our cocker spaniel got between the boys and the snake, biting the snake repeatedly and eventually killing it. In the process receiving numerous snake bites. My husband rushed him to emergency and thank god he was saved.
Next week the city will recognize our dog for his bravery and courage in saving my boys. I truly believe this dog was a gift from God, and I am so glad he came into our life.
Wow! Kudos to you and the dog!! :D
Do you have any pics? Whats his name? ;)
That is a miracle. I'm out here in the West and I just have not heard of dogs surviving a rattlesnack bite. Especially multiple bites. Give that doggy a steak!
Hey I live in the West too! I know they have rattlesnake avoidance classes for dogs, but that's awesome your dog didn't take that class! I've still never seen a rattlesnake out here though, I'm not sure what my dogs would do in that situation...but kudos to your cocker spaniel, you are blessed with a great dog!
Cockers RULE! Congrats on your find and hard work with him. I had a Cocker for 10 years ( a long adoption story, but a good one), and Buffy was just the coolest dog ever. Loved popcorn, loved my daughter, loved us. Thanks for the story, and memories.
WOW! What an amazing story and such a great ending!
Wow, that story IS amazing. Something like that just makes you want to spoil him rotten :)
My vote goes to him for doggy of the month!![]()
