Default Carolina Poodle Rescue (More than Just Poodles) (US)

Just wanted to put in a good word for Carolina Poodle Rescue, in case anyone in the States is looking for a new addition. They are AMAZING, and they have more than just poodles available.

First, CPR operates nationwide. Although Dreamweaver Farms is located in South Carolina, they take rescues from all over the country. And while they primarily work with poodles and doodles, they take on any dog brought to their attention. Their Adoption List includes APBTs, Labs, Schnauzers, Coon Hounds, and everything in between.

Second, they do extensive temperament testing to ensure that the dogs they place will be good matches for their new homes. I happen to be a little skeptical of temperament testing, but I appreciate the care they put into placing dogs in the RIGHT home, not just a home.

Third, CPR operates as a sanctuary. They permanently care for many older and ill dogs who, for whatever reason, are difficult to place in homes. These dogs are not merely left in crates - they lead full active lives, helping new rescues adjust to life on the farm and gain valuable social skills.

Finally, they work tremendously hard to identify good homes and loving owners. The biggest complaint about rescue organizations is the barriers to adopting - lengthy background checks, impossible standards, intolerance of any deviation. Although CPR has a few hard line rules, they actually listen to your responses before making a decision about your ability to love and care for a dog.

Raw feeders - they accept raw! Many, if not all, of their volunteers believe raw is the optimal diet. You don't have to lie to them and say you feed Science Diet or "the one in the blue bag from PetSmart."

Waiting to spay/neuter a dog already in your home? It's ok! They understand that there's evidence that dogs are healthier the longer you wait to spay/neuter.

Moving? Have children? No fenced-yard? Anti-vaccination? Holistic vet? You work outside the home? Your husband has a beard? Whatever crazy reason another rescue found to reject your application will not tank your application with CPR.

What does matter to CPR? The quality of life you will give your new dog.

If anyone is looking for a new family member, I encourage you to contact Carolina Poodle Rescue. They are a wonderful organization to work with, staffed with caring and knowledgeable volunteers, and their only goal is to find loving homes for their dogs.

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner
