I went yesterday and got Maddie, to see how things will work out. I fostered this dog about 9 years ago. Adopted her out to a couple with a little girl. Things were good at first then they seemed to just put her in the yard. Maybe not as bad as I think but I don't know for sure. I would go by there sometimes and it would upset me.
Any way they must have not been doing anything for here and the guys mother was trying to walk her and take care of her. Then they went and got another dog, I guess that made the mother mad and she brought her to the Shelter. Said she didn't get along with her Boxer. Well I know she is this way because at the time I had my 2 Basset hounds and she got into a big fight with my Abigail. If she would have gotten along she may have still been here. They were just my baby's and I wouldn't let any thing upset them.
Well I am having trouble with Maddie and Richter. She gives every body the ugly face, but her and Richter have gotten into it about 3 times. He thinks he needs to protect me and if they get into her space (which is very big) she is nasty. Since it has stopped raining I'm going to take them on a big long walk.
I'll get some pictures of her and see if she changes any. She is pretty fat and very out of shape but loves to go for walks. Why do people do this, I'm sure they could us a walk also. I am keeping her on kibble for now but would love to change her to raw to see the difference.
I'll just have to see how things go and see what we are going to do. Shes about 11 years old and I would love to have her last years be good.

Ok well she has gotten into it with all of my dogs. Hopefully it well get better. I haven't gotten any pictures yet. Had to take her with me to the Shelter yesterday because I was afraid to leave them alone. Had a gal come get her and Maddie got a bath and nails trimmed. Such a puss, let someone else do the work. Shes fine outside but in the house that's where it happens.
A friend of mine had two cats (Alvin and Maxine) who always seemed to be at each other's throats. It got so bad that my friend got scratched a few times when she ended up in the middle of one of their fights so she seriously considered getting rid of one or both cats. She seemed to love both cats so I talked her into checking with the rescue service that she had gotten Maxine from. (She raised Alvin from a five-week old kitten when a neighbor all but threw the cat out. I never did figure that one out because Alvin was a friendly sweet cat.)
One lady at the rescue service suggested feeding Alvin first since he was in the home first and was, therefore, alpha cat in that home. She nor I either one thought something that simple would do much good but the lady at the rescue service suggested giving it two weeks to work. Whether they were getting their food, a treat, or even playing, Alvin was to get his first and Maxine was to be taught to wait just a couple of minutes.
Believe it or not, after two weeks there were no more cat fights and my neighbor's arms had no more scratches. I don't know if this will work for you but it is worth a try. Give the dog/s who were there first their food and treats first and teach the boxer to set and wait a couple of minutes. No doubt this will involve teaching all the dogs to set while you dish up and hand out the food/treats. Oh, btw, also feed the dog/s in seperate rooms (at least for a while, possibly permanently) for some reason that helps too. Just watch that one dog doesn't help himself/herself to the other one's food/treats.
I wish you only luck!! Let me know if this works.

I hope that things work out with Maddie.

You know, after she had a fight with everyone she just stopped. Except we did have one about an antelope leg, but she had to learn when the other dog growls that means get away not try to take it. Things are going really well she and Richter play all the time she won't leave him alone. She is like a new dog. Here they are playing.DSCF0637.jpgDSCF0641.jpgDSCF0654.jpg
He will just stand there and let her pull on his legs and mouth him all over. But Midnight thanks for your ideas.

Are you going to keep her? It's going to be tough rehoming an 11 year old overweight dog with DA issues.
At least she will get a lot of exercise playing with your dogs!!
Yep we are. She is just too funny, she will pull at my house coat and try and grab your ankles. And it's surprising how tough she is. We go out in the hills to go walking and she doesn't slow down much. She has a little trot pace she likes to go in and pretty much stays in it. She also has gotten very attached to me, she doesn't like it when she doesn't know where I am.
And that's also what I thought although we have found homes for allot of old dogs it's surprising. And I need to take a new picture of Maddie because we think she is looking better and that her tits have come up some. I don't think they will much more. I guess I put that she had infections in them when she came to the shelter. She's gotten thinner but she's a very thick girl and I think she will always appear to be heavy. But you can see her waist and some of her ribs and she's getting in shape. I'll try and take some pictures so you can see. I was trying to take some so I would have some good before and after pictures but I didn't get to good of ones.
I should see what the shelter has when she first came in because I think she was there for about 3 weeks at least before I went and got her one weekend.
all dogs go to heaven and you just provided heaven for her.
bless you....for real. bless you. not too many would do this and feeding her raw, well, she'll be in tip top shape in no time...
it's funny how she had to fight with everyone until she got it out of her system and learned her place....
this brought a tear to my eye.

I don't know why, but I dont' remember seeing this thread before. What re said is so perfect - yes indeed, you have provided heaven for this pup, right here on earth.
Good on you. She sure is one hefty girl isn't she, it will be amazing to see pictures as she progresses. She looks like a right sweetie, learn't her place with your dogs and is as happy as Larry now. If you can't get to keep her, I hope she gets an awesome forever home someday.

Bless you for taking in an old girl. It makes it especially hard when you adopt a dog out to what you think is a good home, and it's not. Shame on them. You are a saint for giving her the forever home she deserves.
i was going to suggest a crate, but it looks like you've got the problem solved. i guess she just needed a little time to feel at home!
