We started fostering dogs 13 months ago through New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue of Colorado, after we adopted our second cattle dog from them. They are an amazing group of people.
The one that will always be with me is little Poquito; the 8 week old puppy born with a horrendous heart murmur and hydrocephalus. Poquito came from a bad breeder and was surrendered to New Hope by the the gal who purchased him after she was told how ill he was. She could not afford to care for him, and New Hope took over. He became our foster and the frantic search for a vet who would address the fluid on the brain issue. We needed to get that fixed before he started having seizures. gimpy.jpgAlong with those issues, he was also deaf and most likely blind in his right eye.
Poquito was with us for just over two weeks when he contracted parvo. One day he was fine, the next he was listless and dehydrated. The vets didn't think he would survive treatment for parvo and the decision to euthanize was made. I stayed there with him- been down that road before and knew what to expect... imagine if this option was there for people in pain?!
While Poquito was with us he discovered the joys of bouncing in fall leaves, chasing geese at our neighborhood lake, cheddar cheese, cuddling under our dog Radar's neck for naptime, kisses on his nose and the unconditional love only kids can give.
I am so sorry that you lost Poquito. This poor puppy really needed someone like you
to love and care for him. I think it's wonderful that you have helped so many pups that
are in need of a good loving home.
I love you Kelley.
