Default Energy level.... and going into red meat?

So I've noticed that Piper's energy level seems a bit lower then normal the past couple of days. She's been on chicken backs and legs for 2 weeks now, no issues (well she threw up one morning, but it was chicken, no bones) and she's taking those chickens down like a pro. No cannon butt or anything like that. The only time her poop got mushy was went i feed her too much.

So i've been thinking of introducing her to red meat in hopes of giving her an energy boost. Also maybe toss in some fish a week later.... she's already gotten some cod liver oil things for some omega 3's.... anyways - Good idea?

I was thinking of some beef heart and maybe some chunks of beef for her afternoon meals.... and sticking to chicken backs for some bony goodness.

I am interested in the same thing - it's been a couple of weeks now, but i thought we were supposed to add variety with turkey at first.

I saw that, but turkey seems a lot like chicken so i'm not sure if that will really change much... and Piper hasn't really had any issues, she's taken to it like a pro. She just seems to lack a bit a energy now (she tires out faster).

I am so new I don't have any advice, but I'm glad you asked the question - I have some beef trachea I am just dying to see if they like!

Did you do a search on cod liver oil? I thought there was something about that?

When my guys were switched their energy fluctuated over about 6 weeks. I think they were kind of detoxing. After that time their energy increased but without being hyperactivity. They were just more happy and playful. I did notice that venison hearts makes them loony - they just run and play like pups for hours on end. Otherwise I don't notice much difference in their behavior when fed different meats. I feed Collies and Shelties.

Yeah, i read that its good for their coats and joints... and it provides omega fatty acids and vitamins. I've seen it in pet shops. I have heard that salmon oil is "better" though.

Why have you heard anything bad about it? I mean if people feed their dogs fish I can't see it being bad?

for humans, cod liver oil can have beneficial effects...for animals...it can provide too much vitamin a...

with a healthy diet, they shouldn't need cod liver oil.

red meat is rich...getting back to the original discussion....take it slowly with your dog's digestion.....

the reason to go to turkey is it's a little different than chicken, but not so much that it is too rich for them as they adjust.....

your dog now has the digestion of a baby....immature and not ready for primetime......

to try turkey.....with chicken.....feed a meal with bone, like a turkey neck...and chicken...

wait a few days and do it again and then mix and match for a few weeks...

after that, you can try pork, then fish, then you can graduate to red beefy beef......which is much richer than most other forms of protein...and when you're really rockin' and rollin' you can give heart...and then little tiny pieces of liver...until you build up to the 5% of the 10% of organs...

you wouldn't feed a baby formula and then two weeks later, pureed beef loin, would you? : )
