    Default Enhanced meat

Hyvee is going to have Hormel bone-in Pork Shoulder Roasts for .99 cents a pound. I bought some from the last time they were on sale and Jody has been eating from it with no problem. I noticed it is enhanced by 12% solution. I know this is not ideal but it is definitely within my budget. I know some of you only feed organic and grass fed meat so you would probably say no...but what about you others that feed non-organic, grocery store meat?

Ive had no issues. You could soak it in a pail of cold water an hour prior to feeding. I heard that will get some of the sodium out.

Max ate pork ribs and tenderloin today that was enhanced. I hate it but it is cheap meat. I should soak it but usually I don't. He does drink more water if he is eating enhanced meat.

Canada and the US must be different because I have yet to come across enhanced meat. In fact I saw my first package of enhanced meat the other day...and I am in Canada.

we fed enhanced sirloin pork roasts to our dogs before we realised it was enhanced...we don't do it now...

but by no means do my dogs get all grass fed/grass finished beef....i'm just lucky enough to belong to a co op that does get that and when they do, i order as much as i can of what they offer.

otherwise, we shop sales at the grocery store....for beef and pork and chicken and fish....

i don't buy enhanced, though.....not for me, not for them....too much sodium....and i think it would affect their kidneys over time....

i don't get the whole 'enhanced' thing anyway, other than to make it heavier....and preserve the item...

I asked the question about cured meat a while ago on here and the answer was -stay clear-. I agree with that as it is 7 % salt, the enhanced meat I believe is about 3 % salt which would mean you would feed 30 g of salt a day to your dog (I think you said your weighed 74 lb but might be mistaken), which is a lot!!

I can't tell when meat is enhanced because Bailey doesn't eat it all that willingly. But I won't turn down enhanced meat if it's super cheap...like a friend of ours was selling us 300 pounds of enhanced turkey for only $100. I have never had any problems with feeding it.
