I recently found out my last vet didn't want to treat my girl who had an infection because he felt spaying was the only option. Not because of the pyo but because she must be sterile eating only meat, organ and bone. What nonsense. She will be bred this spring and I so hope she takes if only to tell the vet how many pups she had.

for the most part, brittle bone is usually caused by a genetic mutation. the saddest case i ever saw was in a child who had it. it was hardly caused by too much calcium....

but child protective services had to be called in because at first, it looked like abuse.

    it wasn't.

i would imagine the same thing can occur in pups....

1/3 lawyer, go educate the vets LOL

    Mine is a sacred duty.

They should add that to the barristers' code of ethics: don't do anything reprehensible, and educate vets about the merits of a raw diet.

...in all seriousness, I'm considering starting a twitter account and/or blog about raw feeding, both to document our own journey and to get some more information out there. I've had two friends in recent weeks "convert" to raw - one is doing part-time raw for her family's lab [family isn't supportive of doing it full-time, but i figure a) some raw is better than none - and I was explicit about not mixing the two in one meal - and b) if they see how awesome it is, they may change their minds], and one is planning to adopt a new dog in the coming year, and will start him on raw from the outset! So, in my experience, there are a number of people out there who would consider raw if they knew about it and if they knew other raw feeders and saw that it was possible and not insane. And, that being the case, I'd like to do what I can to help get good information out there to combat all of the misinformation about canine nutrition.
