Exclamation Should I be concerned about this chicken??

I found a great sale on chicken leg quarters (.59 cents/lb) at a local Mexican grocery store so I brought a bunch home!! As I was processing it (still removing skin... only on week 2 1/2 of raw) and portioning it out I can't help but notice how different it is than what I am used to. First of all, the skin has a slightly yellow appearance and the meat overall feels a little more slimy than I'm used to or maybe oily? Anyways, I just want to be sure this is not a sign of "bad" chicken. It does not have a bad smell! Or, is this chicken that's been minimally processed or processed differently (it also still has the base of a few tail feathers still stuck in the little piece of tail that was not removed)? I am no butcher so I am hoping to hear from some people that may have a bit more knowledge about this than me!! Have you ever come across "bad" chicken and how did you know? I have let chicken sit in my fridge too long and it does get slimy before getting stinky... I am way within the "sell by" date on the packages I bought though. HELP:)

It should be fine, just check to make sure that it wasn't enhanced...(injected with a sodium bicarbonate) to keep it moist when cooking, could that be why it was oily feeling?

Give it a rinse. One of my dogs has put up his nose at a slimier piece of chicken wing. Gave it a good rinse and he was fine with it. Later he was fine too.

Thanks for your input:) I fed him some and he's not obviously suffering from a bacterial infection so that's good! It's not enhanced. I am about to clean and portion the rest. I'll give it a rinse:)

When I got chicken from the raw pet food company, I was surprised at how different it is from the store chicken - different color, texture, and I guess taste also as Rebel refused to eat it at first. Maybe you just got the GOOD chicken!
