It is totally possible depending on where you live and resources available in the area. In Vegas, my average was like $.79/ lb feeding about 40% poultry... But I also had a Food 4 Less that sold goat and lamb breasts for $.89/lb which made up a large portion of the red meat in their diet.
I had a supplier here that had killer deals but went business-only last year and no longer sells to individuals. The place I go now is much more expensive, except the lamb scrap that's $.50/ lb... But by the time I throw out the useless chunks is more accurately $.75/lb. prices have really gone up here, and I've seen such improvements since vastly increasing the red meat in their diet, that my current goal is $1.50/lb average or less.

We buy from our local butcher. MUCH better prices than the grocery store. I can buy in bulk and they don't even look at me funny when I need 60 lbs of meat! Hahaha. The only thing I buy from our butcher that's over $1/lb is beef heart. Nick can get that on base for $1.05/lb or we can get a 60 lb case for $67.00. Everything else is 30-60 cents/lb.
If you want to check it out to get an idea of what our local butcher is like you can find them at mindermeats.com
