    Default Issues with bone

So it's all been smooth sailing for 7 months with raw but since about a week ago Lex has started showing less and less interest in her bone in meals. I put it down and she just lays in front of it for an hour, until of course I or anyone so much as walks past her and she jumps up rushes to it and growls. I notice when shes eating a bone in meal now shes taking breaks, crunch for a bit then go back and sit down and so on. Often times she'll finish and leave and there will be a chunk of bone left there on the towel that i guess she couldnt be bothered with.

She just turned 1 and is due for her spay in early March, along with that she will have 2 teeth pulled- 2 upper baby canines that have refused to fall out. Do you think that could be causing her discomfort when chewing the bones? Or has she just lost interest in them? could she have an injury with a tooth?. She gets mostly chicken and cornish hen for her bone source. She weighs 6.2lbs

I offered her a chicken wing lastnight for dinner which she didnt touch and put up a fuss when i took it away. I offered it again this morning and the same thing..So now it's sitting in the fridge till later.

Is it just chicken and quail she is not eating. Maybe a new protein source. Maybe the teeth I don't know if they would hurt though but it might be annoying and pushing against her big teeth. QWhen Lola came at 18 months she still had a few baby teeth I was able to wiggle them out there are not any roots.

yea, maybe you should try a new bone in protein source. my 15lb girl started acting like that with her chicken until i started swapping chicken for a duck neck and then a bit later cut pork necks. i know with smaller dogs you worry more about what bones they can handle. maybe turkey necks?

I would continue to offer the same thing until she eats it...as soon as she does, reward her with a little piece of her favorite meat. Then the next day switch up the protein. If you switch the protein BEFORE she gives into eating the chicken bone in you are supporting picky tendencies. Its kinda like telling a human kid that if they eat all their veggies they can have some ice cream. If she eats all her chicken she can have a piece of beef heart or something. Does this makes sense?

When your ready to try a new protein Lola who is 3.5 pounds loves duck necks, cut up turkey necks, basically antghing my other dogs have just in smaller pieces. It just takes her longer to finish.

Thanks everyone, after eating nothing all day yesterday she finally ate it today! so i gave her some goat meat after as a reward. I was worried it might have been something with her teeth. I use chicken and cornish hen for her bone source since its cheapest but maybe you're right and she's craving more variety with her bone in proteins. Quail and rabbit are so expensive here but i'll try to find some at a decent price and i'll check out the asian markets for some duck.

Glad to hear she caved and ate it!!! I would continue to give her tough love when she's showing picky tendencies towards any kind of RMB or food.
