Bonjourno :D
Wanted to give a quick update on Inga and Laila and their transition to raw.
Not really a "transition" perse anymore I guess since they've been on raw about a month now. Things are going very well. They both eat well. Inga is maintaining her weight while we're trying to get Laila to gain some weight. Laila is underweight, since we've gotten her, and has a very petite frame for a pit. I'm trying to feed her 2 quarters instead of one, but maybe she needs more of something?
Laila is still having annoying allergies with these weeds in the backyard but even bendryl isn't helping her right now and I really don't want to do steroid injections since I prefer everything for our animals to be natural and homeopathic. Any thoughts/advice on the allergies? I made my own shampoo for the dogs, which was working, but we had a nasty storm the last couple days with wind and the backyard is literally full to the top of the fence with these horrid, prickle tumbleweeds and goatshead thornbushes, so her allergies are the worst I've seen. This morning she has some little hives, is red ventrally, and itching up a storm.
Food wise, we're still doing chicken quarters with livers, gizzards, and hearts. Still trying to find more organ variety but I haven't had a chance to go farther than 30 miles right now, so it's limited. I was able to get some elk and deer meat from this nice couple and the girls love it. I definitely love the game meat, but it was all processed into steaks and ground, so there was no bones with it. Definitely need to alternate between those meats and the chicken.
I had wanted to see if anyone added any extras into their foods to help with the crazies as I like to call them. The girls are acting starved and are always foraging and sniffing around the house for food. Their begging and food snatching has gotten really bad. I'm having to start groundwork training over with them, and they're doing a lot better. I'm wondering if they really "are" hungry, but I know as dogs they're always hungry anyways lol, they'll eat till they explode. I was reading the leerburg.com articles and I know they add veggies to their food. But I'm ansy about adding anything with Laila's allergies. Thoughts?
Oh and on another fun note, when I went to the store for the girls' chicken I got in a lovely conversation with the checker and another customer there about raw feeding. It's nice to know raw feeders are all over and I'm not the only one grossed out by the amount of Ol Roy being sold everyday here. I think the checker and I might have actually convinced the other woman to look into raw feeding. :D

Oh my, see that pit bull is trying to eat your face off. I know I'm a smart a_ _ I couldn't help it. The only one I have that's real bad is Maddie and I have been thinking about putting something extra into her food to see if it will help. She's all hound so this is a trait of there's. She wasn't food motivated when I first got her so I think when she started getting better food it just started to happen. She seemed to start getting this way when I had her on kibble at first. But it seems to have gotten worse on PMR so I am thinking about it. She has no allergies so it won't be that tough for me. If you are going to you better stay with one thing at a time.
When I go in and get my turkey backs the guy keeps for me at the groc store I get a bunch at a time. Sometimes the checker has asked me what I do with all those. I say feed them to my dogs, yes raw. The carry out kid has always said lucky dogs, I have never had anyone say anything very bad to me about it. I wonder if it is because this is ranching community and they are just a little more use to it cause most ranch dogs at some point eat on dead things.
