Missy Mae (12-02-2011)
So Missy Mae recovered from her extra skin and poops are normal again. I think she is actually getting a bit to much bone and could do with some boneless meals. Her poop is completely small, white, and crumbly. So should I give her turkey with no bone or continue with in-bone meals and use turkey necks? Will she be able to eat them, she weighs 12.4 lbs now. She has no problem with crunching through the chicken wings or drumsticks.

If you can I always suggest going:
1. Bone in chicken only with no skin/fat,
Once good on that:
2. Bone in chicken only with skin/fat,
Once good on that:
3. Every other meal being boneless chicken with no skin/fat and the other being bone in chicken with skin/fat,
Once good on that:
3. Add the skin/fat onto the boneless chicken meal,
Once good on that:
4. Add in a new protein in replace of 1/2 of the boneless meal.
And then just keep working your way, all depending on the dog.....but I like taking stuff REALLY slow!![]()

Thanks for taking the time to respond.
I started Missy Mae on bone-in chicken with skin and fat on it the first day. I only removed about half of it. Then the day that Missy Mae had the mucous poop I left it all on, that was day 10. The very next day her poop was back to normal and has been since. Tomorrow it will be 7 days since she had the mucous poo it will also be day 17 on PMR. So I am thinking I should be adding boneless chicken tomorrow instead of the turkey, does that sound about right? I have read some conflicting info and would like some opinions. Some say three days of solid poop is fine and you can move on while others say seven days of solid before moving on. So I messed it up from the beginning because she has been having skin and fat since day one.
Oh and on a side note I had someone on another board tell me "you are not feeding her a balanced diet because you are only feeding meat and bones" I explained how it is different when you first start PMR and later down the road and how it is a balance over time but they responded with "I guess everyone feeds raw differently. I know raw feeders who feed salmon oil, fruit and veggie puree, organic apple cider vinegar, etc. To me that seems more complete". I don't know that I will respond again because I do not want to put her on the defence but I did say that their was a big difference between BARF and PMR!

For me and the length of time it all depends on the dog, 2 of mine Ive dont 7-10 days and the other 2 for 3-5 days!
And as long as she is doing good....well you didnt really "mess up", you just went a little faster(without knowing!LOL)
Yes, I would go with boneless chicken for every other meal instead of turkey!
As far as the "right way" being with all the additives...well you are feeding the "true raw"....Prey Model, that is all about Meat, Bone, Organs(you will add those for the vit/min later on) and if needed fish oil to supplement the O3s!:)
The other "raw" types....well they are all about supplements, and other junk...I dont like all those additives!!
What I tell people is, "I feed for my dogs(and cats) being the carnivores that they are..thus they get meat, edible bone and organs only!"

I would make sure she could handle boneless chicken meals before moving on. She should be able to do turkey necks - my 9 pound sheltie pup has been plowing through turkey necks since she was about 5 pounds. It tkaes her a while but she loves them.
If only I were as good to my dogs as they are to me -

What about dogs who need more bone, and don't do well with a boneless chicken meal?
I've been feeding raw for 2 1/2 weeks, feeding chicken necks, backs, and leg quarters. He's only had pure diarrhea once, and some soft stool for a few days. Does it sound like he's allergic to chicken, or should I add in turkey necks?
Right now her poop is white and crumbly (is that spelled right or even a word?) If she is doing ok with the boneless then will her poo change much, or will it remain the same? I am trying to figure out what is "normal" other than not runny/mucous!
