    Default Sensitive Standard Poodle

    Hey Everyone,
This weekend I'll be adopting a 5 year old standard poodle who is eating Eukanuba.
I plan on throwing out the bag of food as soon as we get home and fasting him for 24 hours then starting with very bone dense chicken for the first few weeks. I switched my two other dogs, no problems, 2 years ago but am a little bit more concerned seeing as I know poodles are notorious for their tummy sensitivities.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Congratulations on the new addition, I love Standards Poodles - they are so elegant. I would definately strip sking and fat off chicken, use bony cuts and go slow adding tiny amounts of proteins as you add new ones in. Hopefully he will surprise you and just go with the change quick and easy. What is the new one's name?

If only I were as good to my dogs as they are to me -

Congrats on your adoption! I didn't know poodles are known for sensitivities. It sounds like you are starting out right. If you can find chicken backs start with them to see how it goes. (with skin and fat removed). If all is going well after about a week, go to quarters. I would still remove skin and fat considering quarters have more meat on them. Then another week or two later, start leaving the skin/fat on. Watch close, and continue on from there.

Maybe poodles aren't so sensitive, just the ones my parents have had. Maybe they were also more sensitive because they were on a lower quality kibble.
I know my German Shepherd was VERY sensitive on kibble but is a champ on raw. I didn't even start her with just one protein but rather just switched it up everyday (I didn't know any better).
Taking the skin off is a good idea, I'll do that for sure, though he DOES look like he needs all the calories he can get. I'm not sure about the name yet... I'm looking for a tough sounding name seeing as he has to be more masculine then my female shepherd in some way! hehe

glad to have yet another dog on raw.....if you're using backs, you may want to take the kidneys off the backs, too....to start.

Yay, another spoo! Everyone has given good advice - fast for 24 hrs, then feed bone in chicken stripped of skin and fat. I adopted a spoo puppy from a rescue, and it took a few days for him to get the hang of chewing through bone. I haven't noticed any sensitivities on raw, but if you have any problems, just ask!
