Well, we don't buy 5 at a time, there is no way we could afford that with bills. A 30lb bag usually last about 3-4 weeks, he eats a little more (6-8 cups a day) because he has a hard time maintaining weight and he eats grain free because he has a grain allergy.
The way I have it figured is feeding 2lbs a day 150lbs will last 75 days. That's a about 2 1/2 months. While 150lbs of kibble might last a little longer, it's still way cheaper in the long run.

You'll be able to save even more then that eventually. I get all my chicken quarters at Harris Teeter for $.47 a pound so 40 pounds run's me $18.80. They have the sale about once a month and I fill the freezer. The lady at the checkout always looks at me a little odd when I have a whole buggy full of chicken quarters, but she never has asked what I do with them all!
I buy whole turkeys because just the necks are too much bone for my boys. Right now they have whole turkeys for $.79 a pound so I just buy the entire turkey and cut it up into pieces for them (plus they get the neck and the other 'innards' inside as a bonus!). A 30 pound whole turkey complete with neck and innards will run me $23.70. Actually, they don't have any that bigbut I do have two 25 pound birds in the freezer right now.
Luckily you won't be going after any beef or pork for awhile.

Haha. When I went around today looking for sources, every time I said I wanted to buy meat by the case, they kinda stuttered a minute before they answered. Thanks for the tip about Harris Teeter!!
Yeah, I'm going to tackle those obstacles when the time comes. No need to start worrying about that now!

For some reason the local Kroger had 10 packages of "turkey tails" on sale. I bought all 10 of them. I can't imagine what the checker thought I was going to do with that many turkey butts, or the time when they put out 15 pounds of kidney and I bought them all.
i don't get meat as cheap as you, but it's still alot cheaper than the vet bills.
