I looked all over for an x-ray of a wolfs digestive system. I know you guys have Shiloh; I thought it would be amazing if one day you were able to get an x ray or ultra sound and post it up. Though I know that costs money :( but just a thought..
Is she a hybrid though? It still would be very telling.
Even though Shiloh is a hybrid, it would be real interesting to see. Its still wolf genetics for sure. And maybe re-post the picture of Shiloh and the rest of them all eating together on the huge chunk of meat. I love that one!

We have some recent wolf biology texts here (I work in the library of the private college that I graduated from, lol I've gone far!) I remember seeing lots of photos and x-rays of teeth and skeletal system, but I'm not sure if there were any digestive system x-rays. Granted we updated that section with new ones last fall and I only paged through it quickly! If I ever find time I'd like to actually read a few.
I think for those who believe that dogs have evolved somehow to digest plant matter would benefit in seeing side by side comparisons of the wolf and the dogs digestive tract. I just think a visual would help out as evidence to those who are skeptical. I'm just surprised there is nothing I can find on the web.
You'd think the fact that hybrids exist (therefor showing that wolves and dogs are related closely enough to produce fertile offspring) would be proof enough. But no...![]()
Not only that but the wolf-dog hybrids are fertile. Usually if two different species mate the offspring cannot reproduce.
The fact that the wolves mitochondrial DNA differs from the dog by about .2% when the wolf DNA differs from it's 'closest' relative the Coyote by 4% should be proof enough :-) Dog / Wolf breeding history and genetic diversity
I have helped with x rays and an ultrasound on a timber wolf and have taken x rays on many hybrids. There aren't really any differences.
I have also taken many x-rays of hybrids as well, not at all different from a normal dog. But if Shiloh ever needs x-rays of anything you guys will be the second ones to see them!
ETA: The only real difference I see with hybrids and other dogs is dentition. Shiloh weighs half of what Bailey does, but her canine teeth are a good 20% larger. That is the only real difference I see in digestive system anatomy. Her feet are also, flatter and longer for better traction, but that doesn't have anything to do with digestion LOL
Pictures just for fun![]()
Last but not least!
