Oh yeah , it's no problem! I asked you and that other person at the same time and got great answers. Thanks for checking in!
Having said all that, we don't feel that we really spend a whole lot on Wookie. His main meal is chicken. We buy a whole chicken and cut it up. We use most of it for Wookie and maybe half of the breast meat for ourselves. One chicken equals about 14 meals for him and costs us around $10-15. We interspurse his chicken with other various meats so it makes the chicken last a little longer. We get about 8-10 meals from a single turkey leg or wing and they cost around the same. He doesn't seem to like fish too much, except for a plain salmon fillet. So we may give him one or two salmon meals per month which are fairly cheap considering we only need .4 lbs. We haven't introduced beef yet and are just starting with pork tonight. Am I spending a lot?
Hi Siena, For starters, our dog weighs in at 15 lbs. This means he doesn't eat much to begin with so our purchases last quite a long time. Honestly, we don't "look" at the price tag. Technically we do look at how much everything is, because we too, need to save money, but for us it's really a question of ethics. The animals that are raised in factory farms live in complete misery and are mis-treated and live in horrible conditions. They are also fed very poor diets. You want to feed your dog (and yourselves) well so you should buy something that too has eaten well. It looks expensive because this type of farming is not subsidized by the government. If people take the time to make a "vote" at the register when they buy good meat, hopefully one day, family farms will find the limelight once again. I'd also like to mention that we typically feed not only organic meat but meat from local and reputable sources.
Hi there! I saw your comment about the factory farms and I completely agree. My question is, do you feed your dogs only natural grass fed/free range meat? And if you do, how do you afford it? That would be my dream to feed my dogs only meat from the local farmer but I just can't afford it since I'm not even 18 and on my own. Thanks! Siena
