    Default Doogan'sMom

Hi, I'm the proud owner of a 12 week old Wheaten Terrier. We lost our dear Clancy (wheaten terrier) to IBD, PLE and PLN (protein losing diseases) in April and welcomed Doogan in to our family in June.

I'm terrified of him having the same disease. He just got over a campylobacter infection and still has some loose stool. He is on tylan powder for another week. He came to me on Holistic Select which includes grains. I was reticent to continue this because of Wheaten's allergies so after a week of rice and chicken, I switched him to Annamaet's grain free red meat formula with lamb, venison and some catfish. I also add a prebiotic, probiotic to his food. I have just been doing this for a couple of days. He also needs to be dewormed again in a couple of weeks. He had some roundworm infection also. Oh I also have tried about a tablespoon of fresh mashed sweet potato to his feed. So far today ok. I wonder if anybody thinks or knows if adding the sweet potato would just mask a disease and not really cure anything. I feel like such a novice and am terrified if he will develop same problem as my Clancy. Thanks for listening.

Welcome to the forum!! Your new puppy sounds adorable and we'd all love to see pictures of him!

I know how tough allergies and food related problems can be. My little Lhasa, Chelsy, spent years with colitis and horrendous skin allergies. This forum helped me tremendously with her problems. She has not had an episode of bloody diarrhea or flaming red skin and ears in almost 2 years now!

Post some pictures of your little guy!

My past and present dogs have all have allergies and other food based problems...this forum has also helped me a TON with finding something that I can actually feed all 3 of my current dogs(and both my cats) and they are all doing amazing on it!
