I have just obtained a puppy after not having a dog for at least 20 years. She is a "new" breed, a toy rottweiler. She is now 6 months old, just received her last shots and will be "fixed" in 2 weeks. I am retired, 85 years old, in fairly good health, and live in the Coachella Valley area in California. I bought the puppy when she was about 16 weeks old, and have been feeding her Science Diet puppy dry food. She is healthy, very active, good stools etc. But she has reached the point where she doesn't seem interested in eating. I have been adding a little scrambled egg and that seems to help. In doing some research, I found a good review on the Costco Kirkland brand and have decided to give this a try, their Super Premium Chicken, Rice and Vegetable formula. This seems to be new on the market. Have any of you had any experience with this?
Welcome from another southern Californian and new forum member.
I don't have experience with the Kirkland kibble so I will let someone else address that, but there are MANY products better then Science Diet.
You may want to read through some of the threads in the Dry and Canned Food section.

Hello and welcome to DFC!
Hello and Welcome!
Hello and welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a good site to research various dog foods

I used it to find higher quaility food for my dogs after switching from Pedigree. If you hang around long enough you may decide to give raw a try! My 2 puppies are on raw and I would never have imagined that I would be feeding my dogs raw meat!
You must post pictures. I have never heard of a Toy Rotweiller. How big will it get? My son would be excited because he loves the breed and I have told him it is too big for our house and too big to afford to feed! So a toy would solve all the issues!
Hi, lovely to have you here. I'm sure all of us will say that we are very happy you are not feeding SD anymore, it is not a very good food at all. I haven't had a look yet at the Kirklands brand, but it is like their other food, it is far and away better than SD.
Do you have a budget that you need to stick to for your dogs food? Reason I ask is we can suggest even better foods if we know what you are able to spend. The link kathylcsw gave you above is a great start to learn about the different brands, that is where I started on my quest to find a better food for my dog actually.
I'd love to see some photo's of your toy rottweiler too, I've never heard of one either, but I bet he is an awful cutie.

Welcome! You have come to a great community! From my understanding, Kirkland is a really good kibble. I think you made the right switch.

Toy Rottweiler playing with a bottle - YouTube
The above is a video I made of "Mimi" playing with a bottle for those who would like to see a toy rottweiler. She should be about 15 pounds. Of interest, I have been on the transition progran from SD to Kirkland, and she just picks out the Kirkland and leaves the SD. LOL. Thank you all for your comments. I hope I am answering this correctly as I'm not sure just what I am doing. LOL.

This is a you-tube video I made showing "Mimi" playing with a bottle for those who would like to see a toy rottweiler. She should reach about 16 pounds. ZShe is a darling. Of interest, I have started the transition from SD to Kirkland. She picks out the Kirkland and just leaved the SD. LOL. Thank you all for your comments.
