Well, I am only repeating what I have read and I really have no idea. If your dogs don't have kidney stones they are probably fine. You might start a thread with Dalmation and Purine in the title and the experienced folks will tell you.

But I mean it may not be all dogs, or even part of them. Your dogs are adults and you've been feeding them raw forever! I don't want to scare you out of my own ignorance. Because i am definitely ignorant about this.

No worries. I have done some reading and also checked it with my vet. She said..

I think a raw diet will keep your Dalmations healthier. Ssince you are not having any urinary crystal problems, I wouldn't be concerned. Avoid additional organ meat (treats too) which is higher in Purines. Turkey, Rabbit and chicken are lower in Purines also, so you can use more of them and less beef and rotation of diet is important.

."Dalmatian owners must keep organ meats to a minimum and be sure the diet contains plenty of water. A raw food diet has more moisture than a commercial diet but you may want to add 3/4 to 1 cup of extra water to a meal to keep the dog really well hydrated. The goal for a Dalmatians is to keep the urine neutral and dilute" Billinghurst

You can certainly monitor their urine for Purine Crystal formation on a yearly basis.
Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone!

That's wonderful advice - from a professional! And the fact that she supports your raw diet is really nothing short of amazing, according to soem of the horror stories of vets I've read here who think feeding your dogs raw food is the kiss of death.

I've been going down memory lane lately, so I'm gonna show you my Dalmation - my mother and I bought him at a garage sale for $10. He was one of the few dogs I've had that someone didn't dump at the house. But man, it's hard to resist a box of puppies under a tree. That's my sister in law holding him and my goofy son next to her.

My sister in law had Siberian Huskies. Man, those were beautiful dogs. But they lived in Colorado and it was good weather for Huskies up there.

Spots was a great dog! We were never very imaginative in naming dogs. Of course he ate dry dog food back then. he also died very young, about three, of a presumed heart attack. Since i know a little more today I would suspect cardiomyopathy. But he could catch a rabbit with the best of them!

That's so cute. I never heard of anyone buying a dog at a garage sale LOL My first 2 dals were black and white. I wanted my next one to be liver spotted. Now I have 2 livers and one lemon spotted. I just love the breed! I've had one since I was 10 years old!

yes, they are great dogs and really awesome looking. I guess I didn't realize they come in other colors than black and white until recently.
