Default My Rant of the Week - Older Siblings!!!

So, on Wednesday my older sister tells me that her little dog is biting and snapping at her more and more lately. I have a long talk with RFD on another thread about it and start reading about NILIF training for this dog.

Today (only 2 days later!) I meet her for a walk with the dogs and start talking about NILIF training for this little dog. She looks at me and says 'oh, she doesn't bite anymore, She's much better now." This is just two days after I was told the dog was getting unmanagable!!! I ask what about the eye drops, brushing, etc. Oh, they can brush her, put eye drops in, everything. It's just a little angel now. No problems at all. She thinks it's all because someone teased it with a bone once when it was little, that's why it was biting.

We walk a little further and go to look at the horses and the dog plants it butt in the road and refuses to move. My sister pulls it head forward with the leash and gingerly puts her hand under the dogs belly and picks it up and carries it to the horses because the dog refuses to move off the road. Then she goes to pet it and the dog tips its head back and gives her the 'glare' so she just pets it under the chin very carefully. I"m thinking, most people aren't scared to pick up their dogs and pet them on the head.

Sure.....it's a little angel now. I give up. When I have to watch this beast for three weeks next month in my house, it's gonna be NILIF the whole time and it's not going to bite me!

Why can't older sister's ever take any advice from younger sisters? Is it something genetic? They would rather get bit then admit that their younger sisters might know a topic better then they do? Aaaarghhh! The bad thing is that she takes the dog to the park and lets little kids come up and pet it and it freaks out with kids and other dogs. Disaster waiting to happen.

Oh well......my rant for the day.......

Just reading this makes me smile though! I am the youngest of 3. my sister is 7 years older and my brother is 5 years older. I was told I was adopted my whole life becasue of the age difference! Older siblings LOL! As for them listening they will~ but as for them agreeing with you, that's a whole different story!

A dog going from devil to angel wow! That is incredible!
I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.
People may forget what you said, and people may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel......

Being the youngest of 4... with my siblings being 3, 6, and 9 years older than me... I get this a lot!
No one will take me seriously on anything- INCLUDING "dog advice" and it's so frustrating. My family aren't even dog people, and every time we get on the topic of dogs and animals, they suddenly know soooo much more than me.

    *ahem*
WHO is the ONE here who actually LIKES dogs?
WHO spent half their life reading and reading and researching everything about them?
WHO has enveloped themselves in canine nutrition for a solid three years?
WHO is the ONLY one of us who even HAS dog(s)?!
and just which one of us OWNS a doggy daycare facility?!

but no, they're older, they MUCH know more.

That's the thing, my sister doesn't even LIKE dogs!!! This is her daughters dog that got left behind when she moved out and left for the city. My sister never even had a dog or wanted a dog!! So of course, why take advice from me, the one that has the vet tech degree or has owned dogs for 30 years, etc etc etc. Glad I'm not the only one who has had this happen. It must be a universal thing. Too bad the dogs are the ones that have to pay the price, though.
