    Default Picture Hosting

So I thought I'd catch up with the times and start using a picture hosting site (at least I think that's what they're called). I wanted to ask you guys because most of you who post pictures on this forum does so through some sort of photo hosting site, so I know you know what you're talking about.

I know of a few sites off-hand that are for photo hosting: Shutterfly, Picasa, and Photo Bucket.

I wondered what your opinions are of each and which one you would recommend.

    Thanks all!
    Richelle

I personally like Picasa. I've considered using another to start selling photos though...

If you have a Gmail account you already should have a Picasaweb account (or you can login with your Gmail info to create one). It shares your Gmail space since they're both Google services. I pay a small yearly fee for additional storage. (I'm using 18Gb of 87Gb right now)

Dang it! Gmail is the ONE email account I DON'T have! Do you have to have Gmail to use Picasa?

But you bring up a good point; I assume all these sites are free. Right?

LOL! I steer everyone towards Gmail that still uses Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. Gmail is a MUCH better service.

You don't have to have a "Gmail" account. What you'll learn is that you'll have 1 account for all of Google's services.

Most have free options and then charge depending on what you want to do... sell pictures, store more pictures

I really like the Picasa software for my PC and I can sync my albums with the web so any time I add/remove or modify pics the changes will automatically be uploaded.

Shutterfly seems like a good option as well. They say they allow unlimited uploads and you also get 50 free 4x6 prints

I really like Picasa too - great for e-mailing my photos with my slow dial up... only I can't figure out how to resize my photos to make an avatar - lol -

I have Yahoo AND Hotmail accounts. Hehehe! I looked at my husband's Gmail setup, and don't like it. I know that Gmail is for the uber cool, but I just find it too sophisticated for me. I'm so lame.

I wouldn't be doing anything super fancy. Just storing pics and uploading them here. Maybe occasionally e-mail them to friends & family. That is, if the Hotmail server can handle it.

I've got a LOT of reasons I hate MSN, Yahoo, AOL, etc. They place too many restrictions on their users. I won't bore you with all of it though...

Gmail can feel a bit strange when you first start using it. I can't imagine using anything else at this point (and as a web host I can set up unlimited emails with unlimited storage... but don't )

Should work great for you. If you went with Picasa you could always give Gmail a try and see if it likes you since you'd have the Google account
