MOD EDIT: Figured this deserved its own thread so it doesn't get lost in the Natura drama

    now i'm done.

    RE,

Ok, we're not gonna let this end just yet ;)

Should I believe what they say about your blood sugar spiking and causing you to just crave garbage all day?

When I eat carbs/sugar, just seems like I want more and more and always snack all day.

Curious if this is part of my problem.

I know I know, I'm digressing badly. ....just let me get this one question in, Natalie. ;)

I will even answer it for you Kev...

You betcha. Eating sugary, starchy foods all day will make your body crave those kinds of foods even more. You need to eat a diet that keeps your blood sugar more constant so you don't have cravings for junk foods. I tend to eat small meals all day long, but of good, whole healthy foods. I hardly ever have any grains or starches at all. And if I do they are in the forms of raw fruits, whole grains, brown rice or red potatoes. On occasion I will indulge my senses to some good ice cream or froyo or dark chocolate.

And for the record....I didn't want the debate to end, just the raggin' on GSL...

debate, as natalie says...it is good. it is how we learn...

natalie is dead nuts on....i had a three day headache when i gave up soda....

just like caffeine, sugar and salt are addictive and habit forming...so are starchy foods...

bread, pasta, potatoes, rice...etc...all, if not used in the boston marathon....will turn to fat in your system....it clogs you up and slows you down....it gives a person a feeling, not so much of fullness, but of overfilling the tank....

for one week....eat chicken and a salad....eat steak and veggies, no sauce...
eat no starches for a week....and then tell me how you feel....just one week.

eat as much as you want of
    protein
    vegetables
    berries
    nuts, seeds
no yoghurt, milk, ice cream or any dairy product...

just protein...have the biggest fattiest steak you want with a huge salad with oil and vinegar dressing -- i use curry powder to season, but season with anything but salt.

in one week, you will not feel bloated. you will not feel sluggish....

and then look at what your dog eats...:)

you can even have real dark chocolate, but your dog can't.

    small meals..i call it grazing...good.

    big heavy meals....bad.

Question...will I get a bit...uhhhuuumm...."plugged" up or does the veggie part of it help?

Yeah, alot of what you describe is how I feel.

I will say this though...nuts on(as you say)...when I've tried taking my carbs down, getting rid of soda, etc...man, I am hurting. Headaches, etc...I literally feel like hell.

Could be caffeine withdrawals. My mom was so severely addicted to caffeine that she had to have a diet coke within a couple of hours of waking up or she'd end up with a headache. It took a LONG time for her to finally get off the caffeine

Um...plugged up? Constipated? Maybe a little. But its kinda like feeding a dog a better diet...they poop less...same thing goes for people

Here's a typical day for us (jdatwood and I):

    Breakfast:
    * all fruit smoothie, no added sugar or dairy...just good ol' fruits
    * egg scramble with veggies using broth to cook with and not oil (less calories that way)

    Mid morning meal:
*the rest of my scramble from earlier

    Lunch:
*big salad with a variety of veggies: peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, mushrooms, celery, avocado, peas, green leafy lettuces, spinach, etc. Topped with some kind of low fat deli meat.

    Mid afternoon meal:
*the rest of my salad from before or the rest of my smoothie or a V8.

    Dinner:
*lean protein source (chicken, beef, fish, pork) with a veggie side and occasionally a rice or potato side.

    Dessert:
*only once or twice a week, ice cream or froyo

    Alcohol:
*try to stick with red wines only but the occasional mixer is always good!

This is our routine meal plan, but we do stray from it from time to time. We just got back from vacation, eating all kinds of scrumptious CRAP but I felt sluggish and gross. Feeling much better after just one week back to normal.

If anything research the South Beach diet....really great way to learn what to eat!

think about that statement...that, when you've tried to come off, you have reactions...

if the food you're eating causes you pain if you don't eat it, what does that tell you?

and by the way..you are the reason for boards....people like you and me and all the others who are thirsting for knowledge in order to make informed decisions....and not just travel the path of least resistance...

as to plugging...veggies will help...there is always a period of adjustment...

my skin broke out....i just didn't feel well....i was crabby....course, i'm always grumpy, so that one was hard to tell, but still....i felt terrible when i stopped eating crap.

i juiced.....we drank fruit juice and veggie juice...every saturday morning, honey and i would make juice for the week...and salads..huge beautiful salads..and i would cook....OMG....and we still do...although i'm down to carrot juice now...but i cleaned my body out..

i was so sick for four years and i know food wasn't helping...because is our fuel....put crappy gas in the tank and your car runs like crap....put crappy food in your system and your immune system has to work overtime so anything can get in...

food should make you feel good.

when i eat a big juicy steak and a salad....i'm not bloated..i'm satisfied...

when i eat fried rice....i'm swollen the next day....

and when you first start this kind of eating...don't measure and don't count calories..the idea is to change your dietary thinking first....then you can refine it....first, climb the mountain...after that, it's a sled ride...and fun.

actually i take it back...eat fruits, but real ones, not dehydrated....

I'm interested in nutrition too and have been doing a little research on the side along with doggie nutrition. I don't think potatoes are that bad for people, i mean lots of grains and even fruits have starch. I think where it gets bad is when people put all that butter, salt, sour cream, etc on them is when they aren't that good. potato skins actually have some good nutrition in them too. i think if u want to eat better, stay away from fast food, cold cut meats, sugary drinks, overly processed foods (the ones with all those chemicals ingredients in it), high fructose corn syrup, and hydrogenated oils. like dog nutrition, the closer to nature food is, the more nutritious it will be for you. moderation is key and also try to get some variety. and don't forget to exercise! hope that helps a little :)
