Default 13-year-old's explanation of raw feeding

I learned the hard way that taking my daughter Ryan to any place that sales animals such as ferrets can be interesting times.

We were in a local Petco and a lady was looking at the ferrets. She said that she was thinking of getting one. Ryan went on to tell her what great pets they are, how fun they are and how much she loves her ferrets. The lady then went on to make a HUGE mistake, she used the word kibble.

Ryan then went on to explain that ferrets are meat eaters not corn eaters. That raw is the best way to feed them. She then went on to to tell this lady how wings are good but dark meat is better for them, to make sure that she feeds them some chicken necks for calcium and that when you give organs that is a good day to make sure it is also a bone day due to runny poo. The lady the whole time is staring at Ryan as her eyes get bigger and bigger. As we were walking away Ryan turned and said "you can fed kibble but not anything they sale in this store cause it's all crap food!"

All I could do was stand there and laugh. My kids are huge supporters of raw feeding. They also understand that meat in the store does come from an animal and have watched and helped the neighbor with butchering.

When we unexpectedly got Seth and Sadie I did get kibble for them until I could figure out the whole raw feeding and my kids were the first ones to say "we are feeding them kibble because why?"

I have to work on them with how to politely suggest raw but with her hormones and everything ... man she can be really blunt sometimes!

    *ETA*
Ryan is very passionate about animals and their care. She is not anti-kibble. I did have her research kibble and ingredients so she is better now about it. She's more knowledgeable than most adults I know!

Wow - good for her!!! And good for you, for being a good role model. I hope that lady took some of that to heart. :)

I LOVE it!! Kids can get away with more that adults can. If I were to do the same thing, I'd probably get told off and/or ignored. No one can do that to a kid! Hopefully the lady will put your daughter's wisdom to good use.

    Haha...that's awesome.

I have a five-year-old, and he witnessed when my Boston ate his first rat. Now he tells everyone about it....yeah....you should see some of the looks I get. LOL

I love my neighbors. She is great about explaining to the kids about the animals and butchering. My 11-year-old who has learning disabilities as well as developmental delays after listen to Mrs. Step talk, very thoughtfully said "so because you love your cows, and take really good care of them they are happy and happy cows make happy meat!"

I must say her steaks are the best and have ruined me when it comes to eating steak from anywhere else! There homemade blackberry wine is awesome too

haha yay your kid knows more about nutrition than most veterinarians, what a sad thought! She should go get paid to teach them a thing or two about proper carnivore diets!
An ounce of nutrition is worth a pound of vet bills.
