I WAS bring home a staghound puppy. I was thrilled! we had it all set up, he was coming home monday.....
AND THEY CHANGED THEIR MINDS!!! They said that a 500 mile trip was too much on that puppy, and they decided it should travel that far. OMG.... how DARE they. I am not trying to be selfish, but dont tell me the puppy is mine, and then change your mind. I even sent them a money order for the adoption fee. Of course they are sending it back.... but omg... seriously!
this is the second time I have been screw over by a rescue! the greyhound rescue screwed me over a couple of years ago!
I am SO sorry this happeed to you. While I won't claim to know how you feel (I hate when people do that!) I know how I felt when the same thing happened to us last week, so I know it's way tough.
It's just not fair! I get that rescues have the right to call the shots for the puppy, but for heaven's sake, don't tell someone the dog is theirs and then change their minds. Once they say "congrat's, he's yours!" that is YOUR dog, and not THEIR'S to call the shots on anymore.

I'm so sorry. That is crap!! I think that many people have to transport their dogs if they buy them from a breeder or something. I mean, shoot, I've heard of people having their dogs flown to them from overseas!! Don't know why THIS 500 mile trip was so treacherous...
What is with these rescues lately?? First Corgipaws now you! You'd think there was a dog shortage or something!
This crappy turn of events helped lead Corgipaws to another dog that needed a good home. Maybe it will lead you to something too...
Richelle
That seems pretty unfair. Didn't they know where you were from and the distance in the first place! The pup would be fine for the drive! Sorry to hear this!
I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.
People may forget what you said, and people may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel......
Growing old is Mandatory~Growing Up Optional!:Lucky, Gordon, Sandi, Roxi!!!
yes, they knew! First we were going to send him on American airlines, and then we were going through pilot paws. then they said that he would be crated for 4 hours if we flew him, and that was mean.
so then they were going to railroad him to me.
and then suddenly the change their minds. AFTER I WAS CLEARED TO GET THE DOG! and sent in my money order for his adoption fee.
I can rant about rescue groups until the cows come home. I foster dogs for rescues, so I do see what rescues have to go through but still!!!
greyhound rescue 1 hr away from me... said that I was too far away and they cannot adopt to me!
Sheltie rescue, two within 2 hr drive from me said I need
-8 ft fence
-live 200 feet from the road
-own my own house
-NEVER miss a heartworm dose! (i skip in the winter and heartworm test in spring before putting them back on it) NEVER miss a flea/tick prevention dose... I do not use them in the winter!!!
-no children under the age of 8
and they wanted to check my credit.
I am fed up.

If crating a dog for four hours is mean, I must be a terrible, terrible dog owner, and every boarding facility across the country is just plain cruel.
I know that flying can be traumatic for dogs, but if it gets them to a great stable home, I think it's something worth doing.
I have only rescued my cat, the rest of my animals were either given to me or bought from breeders, or rehomed to me from people who can't keep them. My experience with the nevada SPCA was nuts. that is the longest ost bogus contract ever, including a clause that says if we ever put in a doggy door or let her outside, they will take her back.
Then my experience with the spaniel rescue was so drawn out and frustrating, not to mention heartbreaking, that we just gave up.
Then, last friday, we went to four different shelters/ adoption events and found nothing, out of hundreds of dogs, that stood out to us. Lo and behold, a puppy on CL caught our hearts, and we would not have found her if the first adoption had gone through.
I guess my point is, I know this sucks. And I don't agree with their reasoning whatsoever. But maybe there's another dog out there waiting for you to find him or her, that needs you even more than that puppy did. There are millions of animals needing rescue in this country, you can't look too long without finding one that captures your heart. It'll come, just be patient.

Dang I'm sorry, that is just terrible! You'd think these rescues would want to find good homes for their dogs not make such ridiculous stipulations that make it nearly impossible for people to adopt. Have you tried checking your local shelters for older dogs in need of great homes?
An ounce of nutrition is worth a pound of vet bills.
i have. We really have our hearts set on a scruffy big dog. Seems to be a shortage of them in my area. Greyhounds would be my next choice but the rescues here say i am too far away. one only does the lexington area, and the other will not adopt to me because i am an hour away.
I hate to say it, but we may end up going to a breeder eventually. I feel like I am two faced saying this, since I am VERY involved with rescue work, and fostering. and I have been know on many occasions to say "dont breed or buy while millions in shelters die"
and I am considering.....
I am going to look on petfinder until August.
Don't give up! I'll say it again " everything happens for a reason" that dog is out there waiting for you. Rescues can be a pain in the a$$ but they do good, we have placed sooo many bull terriers in the last 2 yrs and some of the criteria is pretty tough for some people to qualify for: perfect history with a vet with past animals, fenced yard, some no cats, no children under a certain age, bully experince required, it's hard, but really best for the dog that is being placed to find that perfect fit.
So don't give up, that right dog will come along............................................. .......
Don't give up!
We went through an ordeal to get Flip, but he is the perfect dog for us and was worth every ounce of patience it took!
