Talking Vacuums I know a subject over discussed!

I know everyone's chatted about this before but again,
What is the latest's and the greatest vacuum for dog hair, cat hair whatever type animal hair haha?

I have an Oreck which I do like alot but the reason I like it is its lightweightness. Its so nice and light I can pick it up vacuum the couches the stairs with ease! I have been in the stores looking for a new vacuum and I tell you it may be great the Dyson Animal, but holey cow how the heck do you even maneuver it! Ugh its so darn heavy!
Any suggestions on a lightweight vacuum that is just fantastic for pet hair?

Or anyone have just the best vacuum ever for pet hair? Any information about vacuums that really do work well, is really appreciated! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Bissel lift off, and I like it well enough. The hand attachment works GREAT on cleaning off the dog beds, and I mean GREAT. I have no complaints about this vacuume and feel it works better than the origional pet hair eraser.
I'm still jealous of the Dyson Animal, though... but I don't have a $500 vacuum budget right now. lol

With multiple Chows plus cats in the past, I tend to kill a lot of vacuum cleaners. I have tried Hoover, Sears, Phantom, etc. What worked for me the best was to get a Hoover or something like that at Best Buy and get their extended warranty. Then when the pet hair killed the vaccuum, the store gives me a brand new vaccum cleaner for free. At one time I got 4 new vacuums on one extended warranty! If they no longer carry the same vacuum you originally bought, you get one the same price. I have considered the Dyson but couldn't bring myself to shell out that amount of money. Right now I am using a fairly new Bissell Healthy Home that I like. The only thing I have to do is occasionaly cut the chow hair off the beater brushes or it gets too built up and they wont' spin. I would check and make sure that Best Buy's warranty policy is still the same since the last time I made them give me a new vacuum :)

    Dyson Animal hands down

Ours is a re-manufactured that I got for $250 from woot.com last year.

Amazon has them for a decent price

The best thing for pet hair? Hardwood floors!

Seriously though, Ania doesn't shed a ton and she's our only "baby". So the hair issue is not so bad for us. I just have some $250 thing that I bought at Wal Mart, and it does the trick! I would definitely recommend a bagless model, though. They're easy to empty and you don't have to buy new bags every month.

My mom has the Dyson Animal. Yes, it picks up everything in sight. But the way that it is shapped leaves a lot to be desired. The front portion is angled in a way so that the "nose" is very short and high. If you have a lot of furniture to vacuum under, it will not reach very far before hitting the bottom of the furniture (if that makes any sense). It also seems to be somewhat heavy. Especially compaired to your Oreck. So you may want to take that into consideration before you shell out the $500+ for it.

    Good luck!

MOST vacuums won't get under typical furniture. The beauty is the hose that is hidden in the neck of the vacuum. Takes me 3 seconds to pull it out and suck up anything under the furniture.

For $80 more I'd MUCH rather have my Dyson over a random $250 vacuum from Walmart.

As for Orecks... well, they suck and not in a good way. They're DECENT vacuums but not nearly what they're hyped up to be.

Hahaha you have a GSD, just you wait till her adult coat comes in, and then falls out in clumps all over your floor and furniture, then comes in again, then falls out, etc. you get the point I have a shepherd mix and boy she is one of the worst shedders ever, and she's improved from when she was on kibble! Sorry, I just thought I should warn you so you can be prepared for the onslaught of fur that will soon be bestowed upon you.

Anyway, I got talked into a Kirby a while ago and I absolutely love it! But don't be conned by those people who come to your door, just go on amazon.com or something. Yes, they're F* off expensive, BUT totally amazing and worth it IMO.

However, our Bissell at work seems to work pretty darn well, so maybe I should've shopped around first! In my defense, I was living in a rental house with all white carpeting and a black dog at the time and I was the only one vacuuming with my $2 Hoover I'd gotten from a church rummage sale. At this point I'd gone on cleaning strike and the floors hadn't been vacuumed in going on 2 months so I was an easy sell haha.

I have a big rounded vacuum that is used for cleaning car interiors. Yes, the trick is the little hose thingy attached to it. That will pick up anything!! Believe it or not, Aspen sheds very little. Only blows his coat twice a year...
