I don't think I was being harsh on the elderly gentleman. Just hopeful he will be responsible for his bundle of joy ! If he is of sound mind and is able to have a dog ,then he has to take responsibility for the pup. I have a few relatives myself who are way up there, and in anything they have, be it fish, cats, dogs ,whatever, if they are unable to take care of them at their elderly stages ,then us as a family, will help them with this problem, with a reasonable solution. But if they are capable, and of sound mind and able to handle with capable hands, the responsibly ,well then they are doing just fine. Which sounds like what this man should and could be doing! I certainly wouldn't want to take this away from an elderly person , because it gives them a sense of being, an accomplishment, a purpose! As from what was written from the OP I think if he was looking for his dog , going out and about ,he seems of sound mind and able health so, yes even at 90 he can take proper care of the pooch. Some folk even in upper ages like this, are able to do well and deal with animals! Gosh I hope to live this long and still have a dog or guinea pig well, something! Hopefully I will be able to get around and have a good mind on me , so I can still to do this like the elderly gentleman sounds like he can do! If he healthy, and loves his dog he can certainly still take care of the pup and responsibly! Even at the tender age of 90!
I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.
People may forget what you said, and people may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel......
