me too... I just have to laugh at this... it's completely my fault and 100% avoidable yet... here I am! Crippled up :p Word puzzles might be something to look into... I'm not sure if i have a thesaurus though but i'm sure i can track one down... not like i won't have a surplus of time

Tomorrow is going to be the test, home alone for about 12 hours, with the 2 boys, one potty trained but wants to go out every 5 minutes to see the ponies, and the other not potty trained so he has to go out every 30 anyways... i'm thinking we'll put some kennel training into use tomorrow.

when you see your doctor, find out the name of the surgery, then schedule it and call the hospital and talk to social services...plead your case and they will put you on a program, no interest, 25.00 a month or whatever you can pay.

since hospitals can now turn people over to collections...it's a great program....i remember being without insurance when we lived in georgia....they asked me if i wer the sole breadwinner, i said yes, and they reduced my stay from 26,000 to 2000. which i paid 50.00 a month until it was paid off. i think we had already moved back to washington and i was still paying it off.

your surgeon might not be as understanding, but the hospitals, in order to get federal funding, have to have these programs in place.

and, as much as i hate to say this, you have to get up every hour for five minutes.....just for circulatory purposes....i know it hurts, believe me.....but it's best that you do this, rather than risk a clot forming.
    \
and do what molly says....flex your toes if you can, move as much as you can.....to keep the circulation going.
That is great financial advice!! thank you so much! i've looked into this program as well, Helping Hands Clinic I'll be calling them tomorrow. It's very near where my GF works, and she knows people that have gotten surgeries and stuff through them at little or no cost, or on donations.

I was afraid i wasn't going to be able to get treated to be completely honest, i was running situations through my head but in the end it always came back as they really can't just let somebody be lamed for the rest of their life because they don't have insurance can they?!

The mere idea of having idle hands is like the best dream ever !!!!!!!

What would I do. My list is so endless (and oh yes I am one of the blokes who knits and does cross stich). You might want to give us a heads up on what your hobbies / interests are other than the obvious which is tobi.

1st on my list would be some serious shaping with my pup. Never had the chance to try it - I am sure with time you can get tobi sorted :-)
2nd on my list would be to get my music playing back up to scratch. don't know if you play, but you can get a acoustic guitar for buttons and a learn to play book and in a few weeks will have basic songs sorted.
3rd on my list would be to dig out the sewing machine and sort out the soft furnishings in the house. Buying patterns and fabric online means you can do some fantastic things.

As well as that I would then go back to making knife handles, brazing and alloy welding, both for the purposes of metal work and fixing my bike.

Cooking is a fantastic thing to do just remember not to eat to much of what you make as exercise is going to be a problem for a while ;-)

My other passion is simply learning, I too would study everything you can about the surgery, all options, plates, pins, internal fixators etc. (feel free to ask any question you want - I am not an orthopedic surgeon but i know a fair bit about it). The more you understand the better you can talk to your doctor. Don't sound like you know everything just enough that he treats you with a bit of added respect.

I would also then pick a subject that I was interested in (for me that is not french or german or any other language) and learn about it. I like History so learning about place names and colonies is interesting for me, also population movement and the usual conflicts.

But whatever you do............................ Stay positive :-O

I guess psychodelic drugs are out? Then you could travel without going anywhere.

I'm with Chowder - I record old series because I normally don't watch current TV. Right now I am recording and watching 19 years of Law and Order.

I was wondering how your dogs are going to get exercise while you are laid up - when I hurt my knee I had to beg and pay people to take my dogs for a walk.

I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.

You might be onto something. I'm not the best "writer" but i've got a lot of things i could probably write about. ;)

Maybe something about this crazy little dog we've got, how we found him, training, "feeding" especially. I might be able to make something fun :)

This has seemed to occupy some time actually! just checking all the forums that i frequent, and checking FB and my e-mail seems to take a good 2-3 hours pretty quickly.

I'm doing my best with that one! It's going to be harder to be happy, and clownish as to being grumpy and dreary i think!

My hobbies, ummm mostly outdoorsie things, hiking, trail running, swimming (which is something i can still do even injured i think), cliff diving? , I used to do some track days on my motorcycle when i lived back there. tooling around on it was a good past time, I don't have many indoor hobbies is kinda where i'm stuck.

My gf's oldest daughter does the latch hook stuff, she might be able to show me how :P

We've actually started shaping with Tobi a few months ago :P it's just going to be increasingly difficult to do much with him now as he's so heavy and he's able to twist my leg around with relative ease... lol trust me... it's as bad as it sounds.
When i was about 8 years old my mom asked me what i wanted to play... i said Guitar, she said okay... you're playing the piano... 8 years later i stopped playing, i was "grown up" and didn't feel like it was something i wanted to continue... It was fun, I think i'd still rather play the guitar though... at least i can hold that in my lap!
I'm definately interested in some of the stuff they are planning to do when i found out. it'll be scary but at the same time, it'd be good to know.

It's going to be a challenge... The biggest one is actually getting somebody to work Tobi. My GF will, and she can tire him out but the last thing she is going to want to do after work is run his little butt. The girls have a hard time because he's stronger than them, and they don't really try to do anything with him anyways, and so when they finally do, he kinda walks all over them. I can do tug of war from the couch in a laying down position, as long as he stays in front of me, which gives him a good bit of exercise for about an hour. My gf did mention she's going to try to get her mom to go walking with her and they can take the dogs. :dunno: hopefully it will work out... because not exercising him has proved devastating before (broke an interior door down the middle from slamming into it)

I'd love to do an old 46 Chevy truck, but i think pieces might be eaten or worse from my monster, that and i might not be able to do it from laying down on my back :(

I have to say if I was in your predicament would be reading reading reading, watching movies - Netflix, catching up on some sleep but know all this would get old eventually. I like working the mind such as...crossword puzzles, etc...really don't have anything that hasn't been stated. I am a fanatic about research also like others have said...would be consumed.

You could work on making YouTube videos of your pics/videos of your doggies or anything else you may have.

Don't forget too, that once you've had your op, you'll be spending alot of time doing rehab. You'll probably have to go in to the rehab clinic daily, but they will also give you an awful lot of exercises to do at home. That's going to chew into your day quite a bit as well.
