    Default Fruit, veg and protein.

Is it a healthy diet to just eat fruit, vegetables (cooked and raw) and protein (eggs, seafood, fish and meat). Maybe some beans too. I've been gorging myself on pasta lately and now my jeans won't fit

I work at an Italian restaurant renowned for its food so it's tough. But they do have options like salmon etc.

I did it for awhile (like 3 months) and felt amazing but as with most things, I just got bored after awhile.

Pasta is a "dead food" & is high in carbs. It's better to stick with fruits, vegetables, limit meat if you can't give it up entirely. Is the salmon farm raised or wild - stick with wild and forget farm raised.

    Carbohydrates in Pasta

This sounds like a delicious problem!

I don't want to limit meat. I LOVE meat! If I am giving up my love of my life (sorry, dogs), pasta, I won't be cutting meat out. But I don't eat deli meats.

there are reasons to eat red meat....there are good reasons to not eat chicken....and there are great reasons to eat fish.

my honey and i live on a diet of protein, veggies and fruits.

if we feel a need, we eat a starch. otherwise, it's not kept in the house. if we really want it, we go out and get it.

beans are a starch, too....not saying they are bad for you.....

whilst many learn how to protein combine with out using meat.....and that's fine...protein is necessary for your red blood cells.

so in answer to your question, my opinion is that you can eat meat 1/3 of your dish to 2/3 veggies and fruit in the a.m. because it has sugar in it and your body needs sugar in the a.m. not the p.m.

I don't tend to eat a lot of white meat... chicken OR turkey... though I love quail. I don't love eggs, but I think they are good for you.

I love steak and seafood... shrimp, scallops, calamari, mussels and clams.. yum! I like fish too, but I never crave it. Pork's okay too, I like the tenderloin. I am giving up dairy products too except maybe some goat cheese.. I don't think milk is good for you past toddlerhood.. but that's just me.. and maybe I'm wrong, cause everywhere tells you to drink it.

Ideally I'd like to give up vegetable oils too, and just use butter.

i agree with you.....and that's what we eat....we do not drink milk, because we are the only mammals on this earth, i believe, who never weans....and we drink the milk from another animal...makes no sense to me.....i believe we'd rid ourselves of most asthmas and allergies if everyone just stopped drinking cow's milk.

we don't eat dairy products except for a little cheese now and again....

and if you don't want to use veggie oils, try coconut oil or peanut oil.....or olive oil.....or even corn oil. there are no trans fats in butter and if not used to excess, use it.

vegetable oil is soy bean oil.....and canola oil comes from the rape plant and is not a very good oil at all....

I'd suggest including olive oil as the primary fatty acid, some unrefined coconut oil, and very small amounts of butter - but not too much of any of them.

Congrats on making the choice of healthier eating. Fruits and veggies should be your main source of food...raw is better. There are some veggies with minimal cooking that are more beneficial such as carrots and broccoli. Protein is a necessity but should be limited from animal resources...consider alternatives...nuts especially walnuts and almonds, legumes, etc. Try limiting all red meat to 3 times a week at most. As stated in a previous post make sure all seafood is wild and not farm raised.

Yay for goat cheese but make sure it's raw goat milk cheese.

Good Luck...working in an Italian restaurant prob makes it challenging.

Oh yeah... our food is AMAZING.. but the calorie count of one pasta dish is easily over 2000. Butter (LIKE A HANDFULL!!!!!) salt.. it's NOT healthy.. but omg, so delicious. The portions are big too.. the problem is, I keep eating it cause it's good.. I've been blessed with a good metabolism up until now but I think I am realizing I eat a LOT. I eat more than my boyfriend who is 6'2 and 200lb. When I was a kid I had trouble gaining weight so I prob just got used to manly portions.
