    Default Cat bite anyone?

So 1 made it a week without getting bit at my new job lol, then I got a doozy yesterday.....angry siamese cat....16# stronger than any other cat I've met angry cat lol. My sister told me a recipe she used on a bad cat bite that worked wonders, (betadine & sugar mix) that helped healed her last cat bite (she's a groomer at petco), and so I put that on with a bandage to cover it....well I think I may be allergic to betadine as I have welts now where the betadine was....so we took everything off for a while and will see how it's looking tomorrow. I am on antibiotics, but good grief it hurts like the dickens, I hate cat bites! I think this one takes the cake on the WORST cat bite I have ever had. All of the little punctures you are seeing are teeth marks.

& Today (24 hours later), can you see the welts?

I would just keep it covered while you are at work...maybe use a bandage and some polysporin or neosporin? That's what I've done in the past.

Ouch, you poor thing! I've been taken down by a semi-feral once and it was no picnic. Hope it heals quickly and you don't have any problems with it. Evil kitty.....

OMG, that's a cat bite? I've never seen a cat bite before (and hope I never do). I never realised it would be so big. It looks so painful and all bruised, you poor thing. Hope it heals quickly.
Hope they muzzle that cat when they bring him in from now on. (can you even muzzle cats?)

Cat bites are pretty bad... and they are so extremely hard to control cats seem like they can just wriggle around in their skin!!! and a 16# Siamese is no joke!!! we had a 5 pounder and I had my hands full giving him a bath... i think there was more of my blood in the bathtub than there was water!

I HATE cat bites! That's gotta hurt like the dickens! The worst thing was when a big old DECLAWED cat would come in and I'd have to hold it. Those cats seemed to know that they had no claws so they'd start to bite immediately. It is so much easier to hold a dog that is trying to bite you then a cat that is trying to bite you. That is one part of the business that I don't miss at all!

You might try keeping it clean with chlorhexidine. That might be milder on your skin if you are reacting to the betadine. I use it on Chelsy and she doesn't react to it at all. Take care of it and make someone else hold the evil kitties for a week!

Yikes that looks like you were dealing with one angry cat! Is it possible the welts are simply swelling from the cat bite and maybe not related to the betadine? I've never heard of anyone being allergic to betadine before, and we use it all the time at my clinic when someone gets bitten. First thing we do is fill a bowl with warm water and betadine and soak the wound until we find someone to drive them to the urgent care facility. I got bitten by a cat last July (my first and only bite) and it was definitely swollen by the next day. I had to get on antibiotics, get a tetanus shot, and get an anti-inflammatory shot. Guess which muscle that one goes into? So I got a giant bruise from that as well. Oh and the doctor didn't bother to tell me any of the side effects of taking antibiotics, so that was just another delightful surprise for me as well.

But back to you, after the initial soaking in betadine for a few mins, all I did to treat the wound (besides letting the antibiotics wreak havoc on the rest of my body) was put neosporin on it and keep it covered. I would change the bandage about once or twice daily and that's all. Good luck!
