Wondering how everyone made out during that earthquake yesterday in Virginia.
I was driving home to Florida and had just gone through the Shenandoah Valley when the car went sideways a bit, like we had been hit by a good gust of wind. Thought it was a bit weird as there wasn't any wind to speak of, but didn't figure it out until I heard about it on the news.
Hopefully no-one got any damage.

Mollywoppy, Now you didnt cause the quake with your driving skills through the area, did you?![]()
I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.
People may forget what you said, and people may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel......

This is your lucky week - earthquakes & hurricanes. LOL. I live in So. Florida but we're lucky we aren't getting the worse of Irene, only rain so far. I lived in CA. so earthquakes is part of everyday living. Did you ever see L.A. Story with Steve Martin where people are eating outside a restaurant when an earthquake hits - the tables are moving to other locations yet they continue to eat as though nothing is going on. Funny movie.
I was in school when it happened. The whole building shook but we didn't know what it was since they never happen here. We thought maybe someone was moving really heavy equipment around.
Now we have a hurricane coming here on Saturday. I figure on Monday we will have locusts and Tuesday it will be the plague!

Oh God, you sound like my husband, thought I was having a flashback there!! He sits in the back with the cat watching DVD's whilst I sit in the front with the dog driving and listening to him nag me.
But, to be honest, I did look in the rear vision mirror to make sure I hadn't run over something in the road, (or hit the curb or something)!
And those of you in Hurricane Irene's path, please make sure you get out and go somewhere safe. To be in a hurricane of that strength is far worse than you'll ever imagine. I went through the eye of a Cat 4 bordering Cat 5, the most stupidist thing I've ever done in my life. I just thank God that there wasn't a storm surge as there is no way in hell I'd be here today. Remember that if stuff starts to fall apart, there isn't anything you can do to save it anyway so it's pointless putting yourself and family and animals in danger.
Please don't under estimate nature and don't over estimate yourself.

We've been through two hurricanes......Fran and Dennis. Fran was the worst. It is not fun at all. You never realize how LONG they last until you live through one. They go on for hours and hours and if they are like Fran and happen at night, you are in the pitch dark (hugging your dogs) the entire time! It was our first one and we sat in the dark listening to giant tree's being torn up by the roots and not knowing if they were going to plunge through the house at any minute or not. Now we know better and will definitely run if it shows any signs of heading towards Raleigh!
This one appears to be staying offshore but they say we will get 50 MPH winds and flooding here so I'm picking up things in the yard. My freezers are packed so I hope there's no power outages. I picked up 5 packs of bargain turkey wings today so the dogs may be eating well this weekend!!

In Maryland, sitting at my desk, I felt like a freight train was driving over the roof of our lab or something. It reminded me of in the movies where the people live next to the train tracks in the city...and every time the train goes by the whole house shakes. The blinds were swaying back and forth really noticeably...it was comparable to the ones I've felt in Taiwan as a kid
My aunt had a big mirror in her bedroom that fell and got shattered...i'll post a pic when I get home
