MyBowl: What Goes into a Balanced Diet for your Dog? | petMD
That makes me SOOOO mad.. LOL. Recommending that half the visual "bowl" be dedicated to carbohydrates.
What
"Maintenance dog food should contain up to 70% carbohydrates from grains."

And wow - they are advertising NO CORN! If corn is so great, wonder why they aren't using it.
I find their first ingredients interesting:
Chicken, Brown Rice, Whole Grain Wheat, Cracked Pearled Barley, Soybean Meal
On the face of it, that doesn't look horrible. Except the chicken is not meal, so that means it's wet weight. So that means in the dog food it will weigh about 80 percent less, and drop way down on the ingredients list.
Which means the first four (main) ingredients have no meat in them at all.
Yep, I'd call that "ideally balanced" for sure.

Typical Hills nonsense, anything to justify using crappy ingredients
They are master marketers, I'll give them that. I get so mad seeing dog food commercials on TV these days. Thank god for the PVR.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
That's all it's about. alignments are made throughout the entirety of the food systems, the "whole grains" and carbohydrates that go into pet foods are probably bought a quite the good price, making it amazingly economical for all parties involved, increasing profit margins by widdling down the high value ingredients.
