    Default Microchip question?

Do you guys renew your membership every year?

It says that if you don't renew it, it still contains basic information...

Chelsy's was done 14 years ago with Home Again so when I did Rocky's with AKC CAR I just transferred her and Shade over to the AKC CAR online program (it was free to transfer her). Now they are all with the AKC program and it is lifetime with no renewal needed. I can go online and update anything I need to at anytime if my address or anything changes.

I have homeagain and I have gotten a dozen emails to renew but if the info is there I don't see why I should renew unless I move or something.

Okay, I just went to HomeAgains website and checked out Chelsy's microchip number. Apparently she is still listed with them as a 'limited membership' but I can pay to upgrade her to a 'full membership'. No where on the site can I find out what I get from them if I pay for upgrading her!! So, she is still listed after having been microchipped back in 2003 (8 years ago) so at least a limited lasts that long. But since her chip is also listed with AKC for lifetime, I think I will just stick with the limited and not pay their fee for whatever upgraded membership gets me.

Mollie & Windy have AVID microchips which has a $20 (I think) one time fee. Thats unless you have a change of address or ownership where you'll pay for the database to be changed.
I know that as I just read your post about a yearly fee, had a heart attack and thought it'd be a good idea to check.

Aspen has the limited membership on HomeAgain as well. I don't see a reason to renew as long as they have your basic contact information.

There's no reason to waste your money on their membership fees. Just make sure your contact information is up to date at all times.

I had Uno chipped with avid, it was $15 one time fee and I registered with the city to keep my info up to date (its on animal control website). I didnt even realize that other brands charged yearly fees.

We also have Avid chips in all of our pets, save for two that were purchased from the breeder with the AKC chip.
We only paid a one time fee, and then paid a fee to change their info when we moved. Other than to change info on the chip, there are no ongoing fees for either.
