I am confused about what I should be feeding my 2 year old Pug. We recently one month ago adopted her and she was being fed California Naturals which isn't found at our local pet stores so I went in search of a high quality replacement. Did some reading on here and decided to give Wellness Core a try. She doesn't love it but will eat it eventually. Heard good things elsewhere about Taste of the Wild and while at Tractor Supply last weekend picked up a bag and she seems to like it much better. But after doing a search on here TOTW doesn't get great reviews. I have since mixed both foods since I still have 3/4 bag of both and don't want them to go to waste. We only feed here 1 cup a day which is what her previous owner fed so a 12 lb bag goes a long way. Therefore I am not at all concerned about cost. I just want to feed her the best / healthiest food available that will help her coat and minimize poop bombs in the yard.
What do you recommend?
as u will see almost every one on this site says raw. if u can manage it its the best. also helps on the poop end. raw is hard for me to get so i get orijen. its in the top 3 kibbles in the world id say. if u go to orijen website there is a store locater. it will show u closest store to u hope it helps
I would agree that Orijen is one of the best dry foods you can get. If you don't have someone local that sells it, it is readily available online.
I think that both the Wellness and Taste of the Wild are great foods as well. I believe that a main reason that TOTW is maybe bashed a little is because they preserve their fish with ethoxoquin (which tends to be controversial). I also think that that practice is changing... Someone with more knowledge on this will need to chime in, though.
If price is truly no object, I think you cannot go wrong with Zwipeak. Top notch food.
You could also rotate all of those foods mentioned. Rotation is a great thing!
Not in the canned/kibble section, we don't.
Good luck in your search! Also, welcome!

I really like Acana dog foods as they are not as high in protein as Orijen but still a very good grainfree food by the same co. as Orijen, when bringing in a new rescue it is always put on this food before going to a raw diet.
You can usually check on their website for store locators in your area. Good Luck!

I agree about the Ethoxyquin. Many people recommend it, though, and they started using mixed tocopherols this year instead. Wetlands is my dogs favorite.
Yep, Orijen and Acana are great. If you want something from like Petco, Natural Balance is good or Solid Gold.
