    Default Current Feeding

I've stopped feeding kibble altogether now since the end of November. I didn't think this belonged in the raw fed section and certainly not in the kibble section. I thought I'd post this in case there were others who'd be interested in feeding this way if they didn't feel comfortable going all the way raw.

Currently this is how I'm feeding my two weimaraners.

Honest Kitchen Preference (pre-mix, no dehydrated meat). Then add either raw ground beef (73/27) or lightly boiled chicken theighs (deboned, but include all the skin and fat). Supplements are Wolistic Canine Complete with added Joint Mobility and Nordic Naturals Omega 3. From April to October, I also add Springtime's Bug Off Garlic.

The results after a month and a half of feeding this way: zero scratching. Fantastic coats that is ultra soft and surprising for short haired dogs. Awesome muscle definition. Exuberant energy levels. Demeanor appears happy, playful and content....never down in the dumps. Very small poos.

Cost to feed each dog per day ranges between $1.10 and $1.50, depending how cheap I can buy my meat.

I know some will like this method and some won't.....but I'm soooooooo glad it's no longer kibble for my girls

I've heard really good things about THK. I'm glad it's working so well for you!

So what are you doing for dental health and making sure that your hamburger is 100% bacteria free, we raw feeders discourage from feeding large amounts of hamburger for this reason because this is the one meat that usually has issues from the grinding method.

But it still is better than kibble and whatever works for you and your dogs. Good Luck!

I don't discourage feeding hamburger because of bacteria. I never ever worry about bacteria in my dog's food. I think ground meats should be fed sparingly because of lack of dental benefits. SD, What do you do about calcium?

Balanced calcium in the Honest Kitchen Preference, which is in part to why I use a base mix, so I don't miss important vitamins and minerals.

Dental benefits come from Deer Antler and Merrick Panton Natural bone.

Glad this is working out for your dogs! Itll be great for others that aren't comfortable doing full raw. Thanks for sharing!

I only discourage over use of ground meat just because it's more processed than I'd like. Especially for dogs that are newly switched to raw meats the bacteria can be an issue for some dogs.

I've been feeding like this since April, but was also still doing Evo kibble. At the end of November, I finally just stopped all the kibble.

I generally use lightly boiled chicken, but I do throw in the ground beef for variety about every 4th or 5th week. Is there alternative meat you'd recomend? Or an alternative way of adding beef?

I feed beef heart as my primary beef source. It's a very rich and nutrient dense meat do it's packed full of good stuff compared to ground beef. It's probably a lot cheaper too. You wouldn't want to feed much of it since it's a lot richer than ground beef.

I would add whatever you can find for variety.

Pork shoulder roasts are on sale frequently for $0.99/lb. You could also add fish, lamb, and/or venison if you know any hunters.

Before you go all crazy buying fish, just by a little to make sure that they'll eat it. Some dogs wont. But if they will, it is GREAT for their coats.

Just look around the meat section whenever you go to the store (that's my favorite part of my shopping trips now!). If you see something that looks good and the price is right, buy it and feed it!

Great move with the new diet!
