Eukanuba Weight Loss Dog Food Review

As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.

Eukanuba Weight Loss Dog Food First Five Ingredients:

  1. Corn Grits
  2. Chicken By-Products Meal
  3. Ground Whole Grain Sorghum
  4. Dried Beet Pulp
  5. Ground Whole Grain Barley

Corn Grits are the first ingredient. Some believe that’s dog’s digestive systems have a hard time digesting this ingredient. Corn in excess has also been linked to many cases of dog allergies.

Chicken By-Products are the second ingredient. This ingredient is impossible to determine the actual quality of. The AAFCO definition of chicken by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.”

Sorghum, the third ingredient is of lower quality and is primarily a filler that offers an additional source of carbohydrates.

Beet Pulp is the fourth ingredient. It is thought by some to be a cause of excess stress on kidneys and cause allergies and ear infections.

Barley is the fifth ingredient and is of decent quality.
