Eukanuba Adult Maintenance Weight Control Dog Food First Five Ingredients:
- Corn Meal
- Chicken
- Chicken By-Products
- Ground Whole Grain Sorghum
- Fish Meal
Corn Meal is the first ingredient. Some believe that’s dog’s digestive systems have a hard time digesting this ingredient. Corn in excess has also been linked to many cases of dog allergies.
Chicken is the second ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.
Chicken By-Products are the third ingredient. This ingredient is impossible to determine the actual quality of. The AAFCO definition of chicken by-product meal is “a meal consisting of the ground, rendered, clean parts of the carcass of slaughtered chicken, such as necks, feet, undeveloped eggs and intestines, exclusive of feathers, except in such amounts as might occur unavoidable in good processing practice.”
Sorghum, the fourth ingredient is of lower quality and is primarily a filler that offers an additional source of carbohydrates.
Fish Meal is the fifth ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. A dog’s diet needs to based on the fact that dogs need meat and protein that derives from meat.

Review

My Newfie has been on Eukanuba foods all his life (9.5 years) and on weight control for several of these years. I wonder if the recipe has changed since he brought up his first three feeds from the most recent bag and was unenthusiastic about eatind subsequent meals. When mixed with another brand he ate the other brand and tried to leave the Eukanuba behind (successfully). He is now on Iams and seems to be happy with it. Did they increase/change the prebiotics in the formula?
Those 2 brands are 2 of the worst on the market today. Their is no telling how much corn and wheat your really feeding your dog when you feed this crap to your dog. These clown companies care about 1 thing and 1 thing only and that is how much profit they can get from you. They could care less about your dog.
