As Bil-Jac does have a corn in it, if you read how the food is made, it will all make sense. I am a dog groomer, and I have met more diabetic dogs than ever before. If you think about the one thing "quality" dog foods are putting into their food, it will all make a little more sense. Rice- It starts as a carb, and when it breaks down turns into a sugar. We all know what sugars can do over time. Weight gain and if too much of it, diabetes.
I had my dogs on many, MANY of these quality brand dog foods and one of my dogs skin and coat got worse and worse with every one I tried. I tried Bil-Jac and he hasn't had a problem since. The vet says his skin and coat are improving. It all depends on what works best for your dog in the end.

To add to the above comments...I too have fed my dogs with both expensive and inexpensive brands. When I got my pup 2 yrs. ago, I turned into "crazy dog food lady". My cousin, the Vet, assured me that I was. She feeds Iams. I have recently tried Purina One Lamb due to all of the Diamond food recalls. My dog has been fine. Just remember to change the food slowly and find what works for them. I know many who comment on these sites are trolls for dog food companies. And that is okay as long as they aren't bullying. Keep that in mind...

When I got my Chihuahua puppy I fed her three different #1 rated dog foods only to find her health diminishing. She was over weight, her coat was dull and she just looked unhealthy. My vet suggested Science diet and instantly her appetite increased and she's slowly regaining her health. Her coat is shining and she lost the pot belly. I'am no longer convinced that corn is the worst thing for dogs. Dogs were much healthier before all of this non sense about human grade dog food began. If dogs ate the way we ate they would be just as miserable and fat as most of us LOL.

I have fed Blue Buffalo products to my Havanese and Coton De Tulear since they were puppies and they are extremely healthy dogs. Neither has ever had any illness ever. That being said when I saw Michelle's review stating the Blue Buffalo is recalled alot (sp) I was very concerned.
I thoroughly searched the internet for all information on Blue Buffalo recalls. This very website contains one recall (for too much Vitamin D). The FDA has the Vitamin D recall and one other for melamine content. That is two. That is almost nothing comparatively. The foods you list are not bad but not a bargain either. Merrick has ingredients sourced in China, contains meat meal, and fillers. Taste of the Wild is manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods who has had numerous recalls.

If Blue Buffalo doesn't work for your pet Halo is also very good. There are many pet food compare tools on the web that provide you with more fact based information.

All of these pet food recalls really makes it difficult as a dog owner to feel comfortable feeding my pet anything. I switched to a brand that has never once been recalled. I want to feed my pit/lab mix the best food available and keep him healthy and happy. I feed him viandpet.com. All of the ingredients are of premium quality and it's made in the USA. I can't complain and neither can Potter!

Our wheaten terrier has skin allergies (presumably to wheat) and a sensitive stomach. We tried numerous foods which all left him itchy or with terrible diarrhea. The fish and sweet potato formula has been a godsend. He loves it and has solid bowel movements and no itching. He's been on it for about 6 months now. No complaints.

I have experienced the same problems! I am so glad I found this site... At least now I know it is the dog food! I never had this problem during the past two years my dogs have been eating this food. However, a few weeks ago I opened a new bag and within hours both dogs had exsplosive diarrhea and vomiting. I put them on a bland diet for several days and reintroduced a newly opened bag
Within 20 minutes they were sick again! Obviously it is the food. My vet confirmed that she has had several complaints of this same nature regarding this food!

I've fed my dog Kirkland wet food. My vet said it is okay, however fndeieg a different dry food such as Eukanuba or Iams. I feed the wet food mixed with dry as a supplement. There has been no negative effects, just making sure my dog doesn't gain too much wait. Try it, your dog will like it.
