BLUE Small Breed Formula Dog Food for Adult Dogs Review
As with all dog food recipes the first thing we are going to look at are the first five ingredients. The first five ingredients are a good indication of the quality of the dog food. When looking at the first five ingredients you want to make sure there is plenty of meat and grains are minimal.
BLUE Small Breed Formula Dog Food for Adult Dogs First Five Ingredients:
- Deboned Chicken
- Chicken Meal
- Whole Ground Brown Rice
- Whole Ground Barley
- Oatmeal
Deboned Chicken is the first ingredient in this recipe. This ingredient is inclusive of its water content. Meaning that once the water is removed and this ingredients becomes a dried ingredient it will weigh significantly less, thus making it fall further in the ingredients list.
Chicken Meal is the second ingredient and is a named meat ingredient. A dog’s diet needs to based on the fact that dogs need meat and protein that derives from meat.
The third, fourth and fifth ingredients are all grains. All of these ingredients are of decent quality.

My Maltese Lacie has been very ill. For the past 8 weeks I have been feeding Lacie Blue. We have noticed a much healthier little girl. Much more energy and I really think it is due to a good diet. There are no animal bi-products. It has deboned chicken and many other good food ingredients. You need to compare the ingredients of this product to the brand you are using. That is all it takes to change your mind and get the FACTS…

I recently switched my Papillon, Ellie and my Papillon mix, Pogo to the BLUE Buffalo small breed formula. Before, I had them on purina shredded blend. They seemed to like it but now that I feed them BLUE I can be sure that they are getting higher quality nutrition with NO by products. I do not like any foods with by products in them. That is a ton of the so-called “premium” pet foods such as Iams, Pedigree, Eukanuba, and all Purina products. Wait… Purina doesn’t even contain any meat… That’s your pretty typical cheap dog food. The only foods I can really trust are BLUE, Royal Canin, and Natural Choice. But back to BLUE buffalo. I would recommend this product to anyone… it is only the BEST DOG FOOD EVER!
Um, question! I am looking for a healthier dog food for my dachshund and I was thinking about trying the BB small breed food, but some of the ingredients kind of scare me off. It lists green tea extract, garlic and tomato pomace. All the the research I’ve done on toxic foods for dogs (my dog is practically a vacuum and I never want him to eat anything that could hurt him) say that anything tomato, garlic or tea is dangerous for your dog. Am I wrong in believing this or should I avoid giving this to him?
Meta, the green tea extract and garlic are pretty far down the ingredient list, so they won’t really make much of a difference in the food. Some people give their dogs brewers yeast & garlic tablets as well, as flea/tick repellent. You shouldn’t be handing your dog some cloves of garlic, but they can tolerate very minimal amounts. As for tomato pomace, it’s a filler that can firm the stools. I’d prefer to see it after the chicken fat, and not before (main ingredients are before the first fat or oil), but that doesn’t make it a bad food.
I am so fed up with the small print on the bags. All the ingredients should be in large print. I also very upset when I see sugars added to products supposed to help clean teeth. Most dog foods are made from the animal products not fit for human consumption.
I have 3 dogs, one of which is on prescription science diet, for she had bladder stones removed last year. My question to you is, all my dogs and my entire family’s dogs (10 altogether), are on Blue, which we love! Could you please help and let me know what food I could put my pug on, she’s 9 yrs. old and I want to get her off of this Science diet as there is so many “bad” things in it! She is a little overweight and the vet said she has to stay on this prescription, I’m changing her to Blue if you could guide me to the correst brand for her problem of the bladder stones she one had!?
Thanky you soo sooo much!
